mrhoppy (209), Santa Clara, California, USA Nov 8, 2009 Pretty harsh. Alcohol is really in your face. Some whiffs of rubbing alcohol. You must drink it warm to let it bloom and mellow a bit. Big grainy flavor. keidjxz (41), Irvine, California, USA Oct 30, 2009 Dark in color with a sweet aroma of caramel. Malty caramel flavor that isn’t overly sweet with a bitter note that balances it nicely and makes it pleasantly dry. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Oct 18, 2009 bottle, amber color with slight foam, aroma of lots of alcohol, caramel and dark fruit, flavor is much better with only slight amount of alcohol present on the finish, good caramel and hop notes Firemoose15 (540), Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 8, 2009 Bottle, wife grabbed it for me. Aroma is lightly floral. Pours a burgandy brown off white head. Flavor is floral and malt. Palate is sweet and medium bodied finishing just slightly bitter. Overall, nicely done. zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Sep 24, 2009 (bottle - 12 oz) Ruby color with a creamy tan head. Sweet caramel malts at the beginning of the aroma with a light floral hop finish. Flavor is sweet and malty with hints of honey and caramel at the beginning with a bitter hop middle and a bitter and lingering hoppy finish. Alcohol is warming on the way down. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 21, 2009 Bottle courtesy of mfielden. Pours a hazy dark amber color with thin white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of caramel, honey, floral hops, light honey and earthiness. Flavor is sweet and malty with similar notes of caramel, floral hops, light toffee and spice notes. Generally medium body with a light boozy finish. alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA Sep 14, 2009 Bottle. A nice looking pour; a dark amber color with a small, but persistent head. Aroma was a nice blend of caramel, earth, roasted malt, fruit, citrus and a good dose of pine at the tail end. Flavor was a bit thin and unrefined, almost watery. A lot of earthy and pine notes, with a bit of caramel and a lot of alcohol. This might have needed some more time. Probably one of the worst I have had in the style. arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 1, 2009
2006 vintage. Ruby-red color with a small head. Aroma is excellent, sweet candied malts, mmmm. The taste does not live up to the smell. The taste is some candy sweetness but nothing spectacular. The mouthfeel is too thin and prickly. Overall, this one was not a bad beer but it was not a great Barleywine.
