Bottle marked 2006 [probably needs to cellar a bit] Dark dark amber, almost brown. NO head, NO lace. Smell very malty. Taste somewhat sour malt and hops present, but iím guessing that several months of lagering will help this rather unmelded taste. Somewhat drinkable now, hoping it will be very drinkabe in 6 months

Bottle and served in my GL snifter: Poured a near ruby hue topped by a small ring and excellent lace. Aroma of apple and pear, carmel and toasty malt, piney and herbal hops, clove and pepper, and a hint of booze.
The taste is straight forward, Simple sugar and fruit greets ya followed by spicy and piney hops. A good mix of flavor palate.
A nice beer, not big but oh too drinkable. Mikey likey!

Bottle. Very nice appearance, little carbonation but thatís fine for the style. This was a very good hoppy barleywine, smooth and flavorful with alcohol impact well hidden. Bought some extras for the cellar.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This beer has a pretty decent appearance. The smell is a decent barley wine malty smell. The hops certainly dominate more than Iíd expect from a barley wine. Certainly this beer would do well with aging, as the hops would lessen. I didnít notice the alcohol kick some have mentioned, but Iím also a scotch drinker.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Chewy sweet with a hop bite and a serious alcohol kick. Grapefruit and pine mostly, with a syrupy, thick sweetness. Good, but hard to get over that alcohol wallop.

12 oz. bottle, from BevMo LaJolla. Pours somewhat hazed burnt orangey amber with a small beige head that diminished mostly. Aroma of rich fruity malts, prunes, orange, molasses, clove, alcohol, citrus hops and a bit of maple. Very sweet and malty flavor, (yet balanced with bitter and astringent tastes) more prune, black tea, orange and spice, alcohol, tannic, grapefruit hops and other herby and vegetable notes. Full body, somewhat oily in the mouth and subtle carbonation. Pretty good!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Great looking beer, a deep, clear, reddish amber body that aa very wine-like, fruity aroma with a solid balance of grapefruit and orange blossom hop scents. Itís smooth and dangerously easy todrink. The flavor is sweet malts, a light touch of toffee, vanilla, and a pleasingly bitter hop accent. It finishes on that bitter note with some sweetness reflected in the light alcohol burn. very nice.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A very enjoyable barleywine to say the least! A nicely balanced attack of hops and malt in the nose AND on the palate. Thereís a citrusy grapefruit hoppyness to it that I found enjoyable with a clean finish. Not sweet at all like the barleywines I enjoy, but it is interesting to see a different angle on this style.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear, deep orangey amber with a small off-white head. Vinous fruit aroma together with alcohol. Flavours are more complex, with chocolate and raisins the predominant. Sweet with some vanilla undertones. Full-bodied, soft, alcohol is very present and warming. A bit too alcoholic for me, but there is some complex flavours also.
