Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, blankboyís bottle - "kiss the ring 001". Clear deep copper with a small tan creamy head. Mild boozy / sweet citrus aroma, a bit boozy, hints of wood and cream - more like an ASA. Taste is very bitter, almost like burnt hops and booze, pretty much obscures the malt. Burnt and a bit watery, acidic mouthfeel, boozy with a long almost harsh finish; not crazy about it, too bad.

Poured a clear dark golden orange with a thin off-white head. Citrusy hop foward aroma with light pine notes. Caramel and fruit also show themselves. Light alcohol in the nose. The flavor was malty and fruity with a fair amount of piney hop. Medium body.

12oz. bottle 2006 thanks to Tever. Clear copper color with a small off white head. Tempting caramel malt aroma with some citrus hops and tropical fruits. Flavor was much more on the hoppy side. Drier than expected and the alcohol really kicks in at the end. A bit of a metallic aftertaste takes a lot away from the beer. The aroma gave me high hopes but the flavor let me down a bit.

super hoppy nose, amber/ruby body with a thin white head, alcoohol is well masked, all around just a super hopped barley wine which is just super in my book

Bottle: Tawny amber color, light head and lacing. Nose of light vegetal hops and caramel malts. The flavor isnít very bitter. Light sweet musky malts and grassy notes. The flavor also lacking any hop and malt character. Not bad, oh wait, no, it is. Just kidding, but not really. Nothing really going here.

Sparkling rusty orange, thin tan fizzy head. Room temp brings an intense nose of grapefruit, spruce, brown sugar, mango, and underlying tones of pineapple. This BW is hop-sided, but the deep malty caramel and brown sugar notes aim to balance. Never quite makes it which is fine with me. Rreminds me a bit of a fresh Bigfoot if I was comparing. Full bodied, soft carbonation, fruity, bitter-sweet finish. A real nice after dinner sipper...

Wonderfully aromatic, floral and piney, some roasewater. Flavor is strongly matly with some herbal grassy hops sneaking in the background. Does not taste like a barleywine, more like a california style strong ale, cookie dough, donut like maltiness, cinnamon spiciness. Finishes somewhat unbalanced.

Bottle... Clear, copper ale with a small, creamy, enamel head. Vineous, malty aroma with lots of toffee, tropical fruit and a touch of evergreen. The flavor possesses great balance of caramel sweetness and herbal bitterness... maybe even leans on the bitter side of balance. Tangy too. Medium to full-bodied with lively carbonation. Finishes medium-bitter and dry. More like an IIPA than a barleywine... Avery Hog Heaven-ish? Thanks go out to zathrus13 for the bottle!

bhensonb (12758) - Woodland, California, USA - MAY 26, 2006
Malty aroma. Deep amber color under halogen. Rough malty flavor - a smooth version of the typically rough American brown ale. Somewhat flat flavor. The malt isnít overwhelming, but the hops just donít come through. Medium sweet mouthfeel. Raisiny, pruney aspects. If it was bottle conditioned, it might age well. Since itís not, it wonít.

Bottle marked 2006 [probably needs to cellar a bit] Dark dark amber, almost brown. NO head, NO lace. Smell very malty. Taste somewhat sour malt and hops present, but iím guessing that several months of lagering will help this rather unmelded taste. Somewhat drinkable now, hoping it will be very drinkabe in 6 months
