Chewy sweet with a hop bite and a serious alcohol kick. Grapefruit and pine mostly, with a syrupy, thick sweetness. Good, but hard to get over that alcohol wallop.

12 oz. bottle, from BevMo LaJolla. Pours somewhat hazed burnt orangey amber with a small beige head that diminished mostly. Aroma of rich fruity malts, prunes, orange, molasses, clove, alcohol, citrus hops and a bit of maple. Very sweet and malty flavor, (yet balanced with bitter and astringent tastes) more prune, black tea, orange and spice, alcohol, tannic, grapefruit hops and other herby and vegetable notes. Full body, somewhat oily in the mouth and subtle carbonation. Pretty good!

Great looking beer, a deep, clear, reddish amber body that aa very wine-like, fruity aroma with a solid balance of grapefruit and orange blossom hop scents. It’s smooth and dangerously easy todrink. The flavor is sweet malts, a light touch of toffee, vanilla, and a pleasingly bitter hop accent. It finishes on that bitter note with some sweetness reflected in the light alcohol burn. very nice.

A very enjoyable barleywine to say the least! A nicely balanced attack of hops and malt in the nose AND on the palate. There’s a citrusy grapefruit hoppyness to it that I found enjoyable with a clean finish. Not sweet at all like the barleywines I enjoy, but it is interesting to see a different angle on this style.

Clear, deep orangey amber with a small off-white head. Vinous fruit aroma together with alcohol. Flavours are more complex, with chocolate and raisins the predominant. Sweet with some vanilla undertones. Full-bodied, soft, alcohol is very present and warming. A bit too alcoholic for me, but there is some complex flavours also.

Not as bad as the ratings dictate, but it does have a rum like alcoholic taste to it. Plenty of caramel, and dried fruits to it, along with the alcohol. The aroma is pretty standard issue as far as barleywines go, sweet, crystal malts, faded hops, and alcohol.

Bottle pours orange/amber w/ a thin white head. Weird, malt liquor-ish alcohol flavor. Piney, sweet malty flavor w/ weird alcohol finish.

Bottled. Transparent honey amber pour with a very thin ring of white head. Almost sappy looking, bubbling appearance. Strong aroma of honey and candied toffee with a whiff of hops and Werther’s Original candy. Intial flavor is of hoppy bitterness, but the sweet candied notes follow through soon after. Way too much hot, cheap alcohol on the finish. This tastes like it has been spiked with a Jim Beam and Captain Morgan blend.. Horrible. The longer I sip, the worse the alcohol heat gets. Acceptable aroma, but the texture is too thin with far too much booziness on the palate.

Pours a clear amber hue with a halo of a tan head. Aromas of citrus, a little rye whisky, and a substantial alcohol nose. Mouthfeel medium/light bodied with a nice hop bitterness. Flaovrs with hints of citrus/ floral, a litle caramel, and clean sharp finish with a light lingering sweetness. Almost more of a double IPA than a barleywine.
