Grassy hop aroma along with grainy malts accompanied by caramel, toffee, and prunes. It’s a dark amber color with a dissapearing orange head. Tastes thick with tons of caramel, toffee, and dried fruit. It’s balanced well by a grassy hop punch. A good American style barleywine.

This beer pours a copper brown color with a medium thick and foamy light beige head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is floral hops with bits of caramel and malt in the background. Medium body with a moderately hoppy character that has some west coast IPA traits. Caramel malt and toffee sweetness for balance. The finish is hoppy with notes of spice and caramel on the back end. Decent overall.

This dark amber ale poured with a fluffy tan head and an alcohol and treacle aroma. The flavor is toffee, syrup and treacle with some raisin-flavored alcohol. This is the kind of beer that you either love or hate. I’m of the former persuasion.

On tap at THRASH ZONE! Raisin like aroma, deep dark boozy colour. Sweet tingle on the tongue. Syrupy sticky feel on the lips. Super malty mouthfeel...a sort of almond salty sensation balanced within a burnt sugar caramel frame. Really f-ed me up...

JoeMcPhee (8534) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 15, 2009
Deep amber brown beer with a thick sticky white head. There is a lot of sticky foam and lingering lace. Aroma is quite sweet and sticky initially. Nice fresh pine resin over some other herbal hop aromatics. Flavour has a nice soft biscuity maltiness and a lingering hoppy finish. Quite bitter with a lot of sticky pine and some earthy resinousness. It’s kind of simple but quite appealing nonetheless.

Bottle at the “Drink for Charity” event at Rattle & Hum. Brought I think by Max. Pours a clear light brown. Dead still, no head. Smells like rubbing alcohol and plums. Flavor is all burnt malt and isopropyl. Terrible.

Poured from 22 oz, golden amber with huge off white head that stuck around for a while. Subtle nose of sweet caramel, smooth taste with nice balance of hops and fruit. Very good finish that left a warmth in the mouth.

On tap at Hard Liver Barleywine Festival 09, Brouwer’s Cafe. Crystal clear, somewhat rubied medium amber. Dense creamy tan head. Caramelly nose, a little boozy. Creamy medium body. Caramel, doughy malts, tangy oranges on the mid-palate.
