COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This limited edition Payback Porter is brewed with a special fall espresso blend called Sugar Skull from our friends at San Francisco’s Ritual Coffee Roasters. Their fresh crop coffee beans are the perfect partner in crime to Payback’s blend of Chilean chocolate malts and rolled oats.

Black with a tan head. Rich aroma of roast malt, coffee, chocolate. The flavor is rich and smooth. Lots of coffee and roast malts, all well balanced and delivered on a silky smooth body. Good stuff!

Keg at the Commons Ale House, Santa Monica, 16/04/14. Black with a good sized tan covering that retains well. Nose is light roast, touch of coffee, chocolate notes, a little basic and not carrying a huge array of flavours. Taste comprises roast malt, dark fruit pangs, chcocolate, more coffee than the aroma dictated, hint of red berry fruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok porter but lacks depth for the ABV - was expecing more!

Bomber shared by Marcus. Pours black with a slight tan head. Aroma is very strong coffee. My nose is all over the map: chili? chocolate? both? anise? Med body. Flavor is chocolate. It has all the aspects of chili, including burn. Except it isn’t, because my sensitivity denies the presence of capsaicin. This is really fun stuff!

Bottle from Healthy Spirits. Pours dark brown with a modest tan head and a chocolate and coffee aroma. There is a spicy chocolate flavor with a smooth oat finish and lots of bitter coffee.

Definitely one of the better coffee porters I’ve had. The story here is coffee. In aroma and taste. If they said this was a stout I wouldn’t argue otherwise.

pours a nice dark black with an average brown head that dissipates quickly. There is a sweet roasted malt taste with some bitter chocolate and coffee.

Bottle:   What a wonderful coffee Porter.   Dry and very much coffee like, smooth, dark in color, moderate head with nice lacing.   Sweet roasted malts, coffee, some dark or bakers chocolate, a touch dry and ashy.   Smooth, very smooth, with loads of sweetened coffee.   Nice cocoa or dark chocolate notes compliment the coffee.   Not a heavy example, but rather smooth.   Amazing how a complex beer with so much going on can get a high score, and then something so simple as coffee infused Porter can do the same.   Great balance, fairly sweet, rich roastiness, and just a great example of a coffee Porter.   Way better than most!

Pours tar black with a creamy tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, and chocolate. Excellent lacing! Coffee flavor upfront with chocolate, vanilla, and slight roasted malt. Creamy body. Very nice beer.

Bottle @ home. Black pour with a finger of khaki head. Aroma is definitely coffee forward. Some roast, light vanilla and graham cracker, and cocoa powder. Subtle dried blueberry. Flavor is a touch bitter. But, good vanilla, graham cracker, and caramel sweetness. Lots of roasted malt and coffee. A touch ashy on the finish. Pretty decent.
