American hops provide a smooth distraction for Payback Porterís robust strength, which is concealed within the shadows of dark imported malts.

Pours nice and rich into the glass. Nice rich consistency with a medium head thats more on the light colored side of the spectrum (hazelnut brown color). Nice chocolatey aroma with hints of the alcohol. The taste has a roastiness on the forefront but unfortunately accompanied with the alcohol taste right off the bat (more than id like/expect at least). Very sweet milk chocolatey taste would go nicely with a vanilla ice cream. The roast flavors almost remind me of a smore thats slightly charred. Overall Iíve had better porters but this oneís not too shabby but probably not my weapon of choice

Sample at GABF 10/13/2012, thanks to Bluemeow76 for assistance with note-taking. Pours black with a medium tan head and top ring of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Medium body with a roasty character of coffee and malt, along with some dark chocolate and hops. The finish is malty with a mildly bitter coffee aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Notes from my backlog: Pours a deep brown with a tan ring that laces slightly Mild aroma- wafer notes with very light roast. Clean and boring. Fizzy light body, too carbonated. Peppery charred flavor with bitter malt husks and inky. Some chocolaty roast on the back but itís inky with a slightly astringent bitter husk finish. Needs refining.

A very nice porter. Pours a brown/black with a light brown head. Smells sweet and nutty. Taste is very sweet for a porter, and a slight alcoholic taste. But good, an warm. Had on tap at Say Cheese Pizza in Mt. Shasta. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aces and Ales Strong Beer Fest. Pours black with a thin tan foam. Aroma of spicy and floral hops. Chocolate malts carry some hop bitterness along for the ride. A little black bitterness as well. Finishes dry and clean.

Roasted coffee, rich chocolate and molasses on the nose. Extremely dark shade of magenta with a quickly dissapating foam. Vast amount of well balanced flavors which include roasted coffee beans and heavy raisins upfront falling back into a dark malt and chocolate finish. Flavors all work in harmony to create a full, rich, well carbonated flavor. Overall, this is absolutely delicious with exciting flavor. Iíd give this an A rating.

Bottle. Exceptional visuals, textbook porter ... deep, dark black, with a towering, cratered head of tan foam. The aroma is somewhat mute, but the beer delivers a full-on, robust kick of somewhat ashy, bitter chocolate chewiness. Thereís a hint of prune, but in a pleasant way. This is a super easy to drink brew, classic porter with a kick. Well done. (#4601, 5/23/2012)

Bomber from Beer Run. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, chocolate, faint hops. The taste is chocolate, faint roast and nutty notes and a mildly hoppy finish. Medium bodied. A little one-note, but its a good note.
