American hops provide a smooth distraction for Payback Porterís robust strength, which is concealed within the shadows of dark imported malts.

Bottle from Spirits Brick. Porued a medium density dark black body with a creamy dark beige head. Aroma of chocolate creme soda, vanilla, dark toast, hint of alcohol. Creamy body with average carbonation that leans slightly towards being strong, sort of fuller for a non Impy but at 7.5% itís not like this is a "light" porter. Flavor of dark toast, cocoa, vanilla, pudding and slight roastiness. Good beer.

On tap at WF in Plymouth Mtg. Pours black with brown head. Notes of chocolate, roasty malt, toffee, nuts and raisins. Light on the coffee and roast as far as porters are concerned. Medium creamy body. Not bad.

Black with tan topper which goes bye bye.Big chocolate nose. Malty. Too sweet! Rich and thick. Seems Imperial to me? Good bitterness is killed by too much damn sweetness. Lacks complexity and seems rushed. First half was OK but the second half almost made me want to puke.

651 ml bottle. Pours a medium, well retained light beige head, with some lacing, over a blackish brown (SRM 35) body....nose is heavy chocolate, lighter coffee, hints of sweetness from the malts, light herbal notes from the hops.....taste heavy chocolate, light coffee, slight dried fruit sweetness from the malts, hops add light herbal bitterness, finish is light hop bitterness with slight roasted malt bitterness, minimal esters.....mouth feel on the heavy side of medium, slightly sticky, alcohol warmth slightly present, carbonation makes a creamy mouth, and a clean finish. This is a nicely balanced beer which meets the style of Robust Porter. Perhaps a slight increase in hops would be beneficial. BJCP 8/3/16/5/8

22 oz. bottle. Purchased @ Oliverís beverage Center, Albany, NY. No date anywhere on bottle. Dark black in color with a creamy white head that had good retention. Nose is rich roasted malts, hints of smoke and light coffee bean. Initial taste is coffee and dark chocolate followed by a trace of ash in the finish. Hints of coffee. Carbonation provides a creamy texture. The body is appropriate for the style.

Pours very dark with a creamy mouth feel. Subtle flavours and great taste make this a class porter.
