3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Notes from my backlog: Pours a deep brown with a tan ring that laces slightly Mild aroma- wafer notes with very light roast. Clean and boring. Fizzy light body, too carbonated. Peppery charred flavor with bitter malt husks and inky. Some chocolaty roast on the back but it’s inky with a slightly astringent bitter husk finish. Needs refining.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A very nice porter. Pours a brown/black with a light brown head. Smells sweet and nutty. Taste is very sweet for a porter, and a slight alcoholic taste. But good, an warm. Had on tap at Say Cheese Pizza in Mt. Shasta.

Aces and Ales Strong Beer Fest. Pours black with a thin tan foam. Aroma of spicy and floral hops. Chocolate malts carry some hop bitterness along for the ride. A little black bitterness as well. Finishes dry and clean.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Roasted coffee, rich chocolate and molasses on the nose. Extremely dark shade of magenta with a quickly dissapating foam. Vast amount of well balanced flavors which include roasted coffee beans and heavy raisins upfront falling back into a dark malt and chocolate finish. Flavors all work in harmony to create a full, rich, well carbonated flavor. Overall, this is absolutely delicious with exciting flavor. I’d give this an A rating.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Exceptional visuals, textbook porter ... deep, dark black, with a towering, cratered head of tan foam. The aroma is somewhat mute, but the beer delivers a full-on, robust kick of somewhat ashy, bitter chocolate chewiness. There’s a hint of prune, but in a pleasant way. This is a super easy to drink brew, classic porter with a kick. Well done. (#4601, 5/23/2012)

Bomber from Beer Run. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, chocolate, faint hops. The taste is chocolate, faint roast and nutty notes and a mildly hoppy finish. Medium bodied. A little one-note, but its a good note.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Black pour with a tall, frothy tan head. Nose is surprisingly more chocolate than roasted malt with soft coffee notes, vanilla and hints of dark fruit. Taste is also rather up front with the chocolate and vanilla. The roasted malt and coffee are present but relegated to a background flavor. Softer notes of dark fruit show up as well. Body is medium-full with a rich, creamy carbonation. Finishes with a touch more bitterness. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, light vanilla notes and coffee round it out. Nice porter!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured from a 22-oz. bomber into a pint glass. Just about a finger of head. Color was black with hints of brown. Minimal lacing on the top. Some sporadic film on the sides of the glass.
Smelled of a mixture of smoky fire, coffee and dark chocolate. Nothing too special, nothing too surprising.
Initial taste was smoky fire and charcoal. That outweighed the coffee and dark chocolate by a long way. Usually not a fan of smoky charcoal type beers, but this wasn’t too bad. Really nice finish.
Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish.
Nothing too great about this beer, but it was decent for the smoky style. I’d probably try it again.
