American hops provide a smooth distraction for Payback Porter’s robust strength, which is concealed within the shadows of dark imported malts.

Dark black on the pour. Wanted more from the aromas but the taste of sweet chocolate and light coffee and perfect hop flavors makes up for it. A bit silky on the palate.

From bomber to tulip. Aromas of coffee, slight lavender and roast. Pours very deep brown with minimal chestnut highlighting. Taste is roasty and floral, a little disjointed. Finishes harshly bitter.

You can blither on about robust strength and dark imported malts until your arse catches fire, this beer suits only one adequate description: a silky chocolate mousse in a beer. Yep. I like it a lot.

Very good porter, from a recent USA trip. Robust yes, hops not overwhelming and adding flavour. Not too roasty. Very drinkable, and still strong carbonation.

Bomber on my daughters patio (Laguna Niguel) on 24th May 2015. Decent Porter, black body, tanned topping, looked the part. Malts all the way here, dark chocolate, ground coffee and some root liquorice notes. Body depth good, smooth and tasty. Light smoky/over roasted feel to the finish.

Draught at the Speakeasy, San Francisco, CA.
Dark reddish brown colour with a small tan head. Roasted malt, mild coffee and dryness in the aroma. Roasted malt, strong coffee, roast, dryness and ash in the flavour.

Poured from bomber into tulip. Poured black with two finger tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is lightly malty. Taste is robust and is lightly sweet with a fairly smooth finish. Notes of toffee and roasted malts. Light to medium carbonation. Great tasting average porter at an affordable price. $5.50 for a bomber not a bad price in PA.

Another black thing with thin light brown head. Gives off chocolate, burnt toast aromas. Taste starts very roasty - let it warm up a bit and the alcohol comes into the picture with a bit of heat. Finish is dry, bitter, and a little floral? Hop character in the end is unusual for the style - I like my porters a little richer than this one. The dryness of this is even approaching CDA territory.

2/25/15 from bomber. Slight chocolately aroma. Nice light coffee dark malt flavor. A little thin mouthfeel. Deceptively little alcohol taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark black with minimal highlights, a thick khaki head and decent lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, cocoa, mocha and a hint of Worcestershire. Taste is also heavy on the dark roasted malts with a bit of sweetness. Flavors of day old dark roast coffee, cocoa, mocha, molasses, oats, some ash and a smooth roasty bitterness. Finishes semi dry and roasty. Mouthfeel is semi creamy with a medium/full body and moderate/high carbonation. Nice flavorful Porter that shows off the dark specialty malts but has just enough sweetness to keep it from getting too dry and roasty.
