American hops provide a smooth distraction for Payback Porter’s robust strength, which is concealed within the shadows of dark imported malts.

Bomber. Pours a dark brown color with a good inch of thick cappuccino like head. Pleasant aroma of roast malt, coffee and cocoa powder. The taste kicks off with a strong roasted malt flavor backed by citrusy hops and bittersweet chocolate. Also some light roast coffee and orange peel in the mix. There’s a surprisingly strong citrus presence that nearly overpowers the dark, roasty flavors. The alcohol is also much more subtle than I was expecting. Definitely not your run-of-the-mill Porter.

A very nice porter. Pours a brown/black with a light brown head. Smells sweet and nutty. Taste is very sweet for a porter, and a slight alcoholic taste. But good, an warm. Had on tap at Say Cheese Pizza in Mt. Shasta. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours nice and rich into the glass. Nice rich consistency with a medium head thats more on the light colored side of the spectrum (hazelnut brown color). Nice chocolatey aroma with hints of the alcohol. The taste has a roastiness on the forefront but unfortunately accompanied with the alcohol taste right off the bat (more than id like/expect at least). Very sweet milk chocolatey taste would go nicely with a vanilla ice cream. The roast flavors almost remind me of a smore thats slightly charred. Overall I’ve had better porters but this one’s not too shabby but probably not my weapon of choice

Draught at Toronado. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, caramel, chocolate), lightly hoppy (flowers, grapefruit, resin), with notes of plum, vanilla, and blackberry. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation. A very pleasant rendition.

[Draft @ Freakin Frog] Poured an opaque black color with a medium sized tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa, nuts, and charred wood. Taste of chestnuts, roast, chocolate, and light smoke in the finish.

Bottle from Bev Mo: Created a thick formation of foamed head while the liquid was a dark brown that was completely opaque. The aroma has a cereal fragrance, but with an added coffee bean and melted milk chocolate nose as well. The flavor was sort of bland with only a minimal amount of roasted malt, and light traces of canned coffee. The price of this was fair, but this was just an ordinary porter.

Tap at Rattle’n’Hum. Creamy head. Roasty, slightly soapy aroma, lots of soy. Dark soy sauce flavor, a little astringent, some breadcrust and pumpernickel. Notes of chalk and carbon in the finish.

Dark colored with a nice tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, dark fruits, light chocolate, a touch of raisin, and some herbs. Full bodied and smooth. Flavor is stout-like. Rather roasted, chocolate, mild bittersweet, nutty, and light smoke. An enjoyable brew that seems to lean stout-ish. (Draught at Thrash Zone- Yokohama, Japan)
