Prohibition Ale is a boldly hopped amber ale that strikes a perfect balance between caramel maltiness and its aggressive hopping.

shared with Konfuzzi, Dec./15. A complex, bold yet elegant Amber that is far from the dull pitfalls of the style. Nose of dark caramels, juicy orange and citrus hops and a hint of vanilla; in taste, the dark caramels have a wonderful and refreshing counterpart in the hoppy grapefruit, pine and bergamotte notes. Superdry, very clean finish, light bitterness. Wow!

(Speakeasy Prohibition Ale) Bottle 355 ml at home, served into a shaker, ABV 6.1% Amber to light brown colour on the body, with a big light beige head on top, a bit thin, with low retention. Nice hoppy aroma, with citrus, light orange, biscuit, caramel. Taste also of caramel, a bit malty as expected but with nice notes of citrus, orange, biscuits, grass. Medium body, soft carbonation. Very good.

Bottle from Fyne Ales’ brewery tap. Clear amber body with a medium beige head. Lively carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of coffee, caramel, orange and stewed apple. Flavour of toffee, coffee and red fruits. Medium body with an oily texture. Light fizz. I really enjoyed this. It reminded me of Coronado’s Mermaid’s Red Ale, but with added bitterness and drinkability.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2015 Dark amber color, almost brown, with beige head. Aroma is mostly caramel and malts but there is some earthy hop character too. More hops on the taste, mostly earthy and piney. Some caramel sweetness too but on the finish and aftertaste it gets quite bitter. Body is soft but has an abrasive carbonation. Overall it’s a well made, classic style amber ale.
