Hurray for me, my 100th review. Quick story: this was my first craft beer ever, first had it about 8 years ago at the age of 16 (not that im promoting underage drinking) although during that time I hated quality beer took me awhile to get in to good beer. OK then, A: Fresh pine and some grapefruit hits you first, but it is quickly followed by dark caramel malts, some toasted biscuitt and figs along with some alcohol that was able to sneak in there. P: A dark amber with a flan colored head. T: Starts off similar to the smell, the hops hit you first, some tropical punch, and citrus. What comes after that is a malt attack, toasted biscuitt, grains, nuts, pumpernickle, some citrus is still hanging there but the strong caramel malt will ultimately dominate this it finishes with some grassy bitterness. M: Very light, with light/medium carbonation. O: A good beer, but I have come along way, im not big with amber ales and this is no exception. Also im not a huge fan of beers that battle hops and malt I usually like malty or hoppy. I will buy this again just not right now.

On draft at cable car city pub in San Francisco. Hazy dark brown. Off white head. Peach aroma. Malty with a bitter finish.

On tap at Burger Meister. Clear deep amber pour with minimal head. The glass was iced. *sigh* after letting it warm a bit the nose is a really great mix of grain, hops and nuts with something else that gives it a really impressive edge. All the same elements come out on the palate. I can almost name that mystery component...it’s right on the tip of my tongue...fuck! The body suits the beer well. Very impressive for a beer at a burger joint.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2012 Pour is dark copper with orange highlights. Large, quickly dissapating rocky white head. Aroma is moderate toasted malts, grain, caramel, light, perfumy resinous hops, a little light yeast, dark fruits and brown sugar. Flavour is quite a heavy sweetness offset by light/moderate hops, more stewed fruits, followed by caramel/molasses. Body is medium to full, quite dry, carbonation is soft, finish sweet and long lasting. Rating updated when i had it on Draught in California.

Bottle at home, from my Minneapolis Town Hall glass. Pours hazy deep copper, thin off-white head, decent lacing. Nose is caramel, smoke citrus fruit, grass, mineral. Very clean nose, very bright and fresh for an Amber. Flavours of spice, grass, moderate caramel, nice balance, no boiled vegetables, which is nice. Overall a great Amber.

Hops and biscuit malt on the aroma. Dark amber color with a decent foam. Slight metallic funk upfront with some assertive hops and a bready oat backbone. Overall, it’s a pretty basic ale on the hoppy side. Bit of an odd funk floating around. B- rating.

Pours a maple syrup color with a deep orange hue. Aroma of caramel and malt, with a distinct molasses sweetness. Taste is a very nice blend between malt and bitter sweetness. Overall a good amber ale with a slight bite that dissolves quickly.

Draft. Clear amber with really good lacing. Malt heavy but not a lot of caramel. Actually lacing may be the best I've ever seen. A really nice tasty amber. Better than red rocket. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

7 aug 2012, bottle. Bright ruby brown, clear, no bubbles. Nose is sweet cherries, grassy hops, bready malt. Thin body and fizzy. Grapefruit hops, some red fruit, crisp, bitter grassy finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
