COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prohibition Ale is a boldly hopped amber ale that strikes a perfect balance between caramel maltiness and its aggressive hopping.

330mL bottle. Pours deep clear amber with and a big creamy off white head. A bready/biscuit like aroma with a hint of toffee and a nice toffee/grapefruit flavour.

Bottle - Pine notes and a caramel backbone. Clear amber with a bubbly brown head. Lots of toffee with a resinous hoppy bitterness. Finish is very dry and bitter. The finish is what prevents this beer from being awesome.

Bottled. New Zealand holiday 2011-12. Old notes. Aroma has caramel and citrus. Hazy, orange-brown coloured beer with an off-white head. The taste is sweetish, has caramel, citrus and is slightly spicy. Moderate bitter finish.

Deep, clear ruby red with a solid tan head and moderate lace. Intensely hoppy aroma barely allows the caramel malt, bold as it is, to come through. Complex flavor profile features caramel, toast and biscuit supporting big hop bitterness, alcohol, pears, raisin, pine and grapefruit. Full body, creamy and sticky mouthfeel, modest carbonation and a mostly bitter finish.

First I loved the art on this label. Microbrews are like books, it is the picture on the cover that catches your eye first. The beer itself wasn’t bad to look at either. It poured a nice copper/amber color with a thick tan head. It had an aroma that reminded me a little of grapefruit. It had a light feel and tasted of malt, citrus, and hops. This beer had the mouth feel of a lager but the look of an amber ale, but the taste was something in between. This is not at all a complaint of course, as you can tell from my rating.

12oz bottle pours with a clear deep red garnet sort of glistening body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up malts, roasted malts and then a mix of sweet nuttiness and mild dark cherry like fruity esters. The taste starts with a fairly rich mix of malts, biscuit malts, some roasted malts and then a mix of modest pine to citrus like hoppiness. The bitterness grows some to midway and into the finish where a faint ripe dark red cherry esteriness is noticed. Nice!

From bottle. Ruby hued amber color. Aroma is pungent citrus and pine with intense caramel note; reminiscent of barleywine aromas. Taste starts out sweet caramel and citrus, but veers into a slightly off-putting unripened sour grapefruit note that throws off the balance. Finishes with too much of the bitter sour citrus.

Bottle - pours cloudy amber with thick head. Nose of aged malt, grass, and yeast. Smooth mouthfeel. Taste is funky blend of sweet malt and bitter hops. This strangely created a sour finish for this one. Takes a few sips to get used to. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I really like this beer. I go back with these guys since the days when they owned the beer making shop on Clement in the Richmond (SF) and I am super happy to see how successful they have become. There are a lot of heavily hopped West Coast ales on the market but this one has a great balance, a nice, soft amber malty-ness, and a strong but not overwhelming punch to it. One of my favorite beers.

Ale Alpharetta December Meeting. Dark amber with slight creamy head. Aroma was floral and citrus hops with caramelly malt. Flavor was sweet caramel malts, spicy and citrus hops. Comes off a unbalanced by the hops and finished slightly harsh for me.
