COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prohibition Ale is a boldly hopped amber ale that strikes a perfect balance between caramel maltiness and its aggressive hopping.

Tap. Pours dark amber/light brown, very little head, but what is there laces nicely. Nose is toast, caramel, and a pine/floral hop note. Tastes much the same, with toasted/caramel sweetness well balanced against a resinous bitter hop note. Well balanced, finishes clean and dry.

The first thing that strikes me about this beer is it’s lovely copper red color but it unfortunately goes down a bit from there. The nose has a nice floral hop presence but nothing too vibrant or striking. This is a bit on the sweet side and well balanced but the finish is a bit metallic which really diminishes the overall experience. The texture is nice and creamy and not too thick as not to be drinkable but because of that harsh bitterness it is hard to enjoy fully.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Clear and gorgeous deep reddish amber color with a decent tan head. Nutty nose, with earthy and piney hops, dark caramel and toffee. Sweet juicy caramel malt flavor, med-hi bitterness, almonds, and marmalade. Medium bodied, rich, balanced and somewhat wintery in character. Cool.

Bottle. Amber pour with tan head. Light hop with malt aromas. Flavor is light with hints of hops, and light caramel and other malt tones.

Rated 3/31/13. 22 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip. A: Pours a dark reddish-brown color. The head is a two finger heavy cream shade. Retention starts off quickly, then seems to slow down as the bubbles in the head get smaller. Attractive lacing, too. S: This has a LOT of caramel malt in it, with a slight candied tone thrown in there as well. But the more I whiff it, the more a grassy, lemony hop character comes through. Not bad. T: Initially, this opens up very caramel-forward. Underlying all the caramel are hints of chocolate, and it finishes with some light Centennial hopping. The flavors here balance out too well - they seem to cancel out the interesting qualities they could have otherwise brought to the table. In other words, a typical amber ale. M: There’s too much sweetness on the palate, and it’s too thickly textured. The lack of flavor and unctuous palate feel - combined with the slightly-too-strong carbonation - makes this one really difficult to drink. O: This is the first offering from Speakeasy I’ve had, and I’m not impressed. It’s the poor drinkability combined with the dreadfully boring nature that kills it for me. Others will like this, I don’t - like I said before, a typical amber ale. It does improve once it warms up, at least.

On tap. Pours a nice amber color with a tan head and lots of lacing. It has a mild aroma of earthy hops and sweet amber malt. It has a fair mix of malt and hops up front and a bittersweet aftertaste over a medium body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Sweet caramel malt and soapy orange aroma. Clear deep amber with a large beige head. Caramel malt and orange-soapy-piney hops flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation. Nicer than average amber ale

Pours a deep amber color with a 1 inch tan head. Smell is malty and surprisingly hoppy. Taste is very well rounded, lots of malts with the hops to suffice. Medium body with a bitter finish. A bold amber ale, very good.

On tap. Luscious ruby red color with a nice little tan head. Malty yeasty nose, classic red ale aromas. Very clean malty, bready tastes with a nice hop highlight. Clean finish. Yumm.
