COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prohibition Ale is a boldly hopped amber ale that strikes a perfect balance between caramel maltiness and its aggressive hopping.

On tap at City, San Francisco. A dark amber beer topped by a finger-thick light beige head leaving lacings. The aroma is on the hoppy side, with some maltiness. Caramel too, also in the flavor. Nice bitterness, piney hops and a touch of dark bread. Pleasant carbonation, soft and at an appropriate level. Caramel notes and bitterness in the swallow. A decent beer indeed, but not very interesting. 130804

Bottle. Certainly does strike a superb balance between malts and hops. Pours a dark, rich amber hue with a mild, off-white head. Nose is citrus hops and slight, roasted malts. Flavor has nice, earthy hop bitterness and burnt malt character. A few notes of caramel and coffee. Medium bitterness and sweetness. Smooth, rich body. Finish is tasty with warm, roasty malt aftertaste. Flavor could be a bit more robust but overall this is a great beer.

Dark cherry amber. Caramel, nuts, orange in the aroma. Bitter, rooty body with long caramel notes.

NIce aroma of citrusy hop with underlying malt. Beautiful copper/amber color with a light tan head. Starts with wonderful hops, mostly citrusy, followed by a thrust of malt, ending with very nice bitterness, possibly with some pine coming past the citrus. It’s all in the perception. There’s some sort of tobacco type spice? in the finish? Maybe it’s a bit of herbal note. There’s something there. Really very good.

Clear amber body with a quickly dissipating medium tan head. Aroma is sweet, strong grapefruit, floral, caramel. Taste is medium sweet grapefruit, supplemented by light caramel and floral notes. Medium body. More aggressive than "amber ale" suggests, which in this case is a good thing.

Bottle. Poured deep copper color with a large frothy off-white head that lasted and produced excellent lacing. Complex citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium smooth bitter flavor with a medium bitter sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a standout beer.

Bottled, pasteurised, 355ml from Bellingers Garage, Grove, Oxon. Red amber with white head. Good, smooth and fruity beer with quite a sweetish hoppy flavour. The body has a slightly thick caramel note, but with a soft, berry fruitiness, decent tongue coating, then a fruity light hop, not with the aggressiveness expected. Very pleasant.

Bottle poured a clear amber with an off white head. Aromas of sweet malt, carmel and a hint of citrus. Palate was a little on the thin side. Flavors of malt, and carmel with a mildly bitter finish. This is hardly what I would call boldly hopped!
