3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is described as amber ale but ESB seems the proper style. It is aggressively hopped and laces up on the glass. The floral aroma and fruity character make this a greatly enjoyable beer.

There is a very grainy malt tinge to the nose. It pours clear dark copper, with a thin head, but it lingers. It starts out a bit too sugary and sweet then ends like a handful of pine needles. Iím just not enjoying the mix. An interesting, different kind of taste, just not one I really enjoy.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle. Pours a deep, beautiful amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt with a little added hoppiness. Flavor is malt forward, but with great balancing bitterness from the hops. Overall, this is absolutely one of my favorite amber ales. Well-balance and very flavorful, itís a welcome addition to my regular rotation.

Now this is what an ale is supposed to be! Almost as good as Arrogant Bastard, but less arrogant.
Deep, inviting amber color, nice lacy head.
Cascades mingle with fruity esters in the nose, though both in perfect amounts.
Wonderful malt spectrum, very akin to Deschutes Jubelale in terms of its
excellent use of specialty malts. Easily a top-10 beer for me.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2006 Wonderful strong pale ale. Itís been a favorite for years. It started showing up in bottles in the SF Bay Area in 2000 and has been increasing in availability ever since. Tastes to me like lots of tasty Cascase hops added late in the boil and again dry hopped in the secondary conditioning phase. Nice crystal-malt sweetness that blends excellently with the hop flavors. Highly recommended. I could have sworn this beer tasted even better about 2-3 years ago, but itís still very good.

Bottle. Pours golden amber with very little white head. Nice hops aroma. Finishes a bit watery.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap. Pours dark amber/light brown, very little head, but what is there laces nicely. Nose is toast, caramel, and a pine/floral hop note. Tastes much the same, with toasted/caramel sweetness well balanced against a resinous bitter hop note. Well balanced, finishes clean and dry.

Bottled. Not bad, but was very grainy for my mouth. It also had a refreshing citrus flavor. Slight bitter finish.

I had no idea what I was getting into when I got this -- mainly because my friend drank my last SNPA so he gave me one of these instead. A good beer. Good amber color with a decent head. More hops than a lot of ambers.

2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Nice amber color but otherwise underwhelming. A bit bready, a bit soapy. A fairly generic amber without a lot of subtlety. Soapiness definitely hangs around.
