3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Aquilo (490) - Berkeley, California, USA - JUL 3, 2007Color is amber with a thick foamy head that disappears quickly. Smells of grapefruit, mango and candy. A bit too sweet for me. Flavor is more confusing than complex. Hops are competing with citrus flavors, and neither flavor seems to be winning. There is also this annoying candy flavor in the background. All I can say for the mouthfeel is that it is wet. As awkward as this beer is, it is still drinkable, and perhaps even enjoyable. But I won’t buy another six-pack.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Bule (231) - California, USA - JUN 15, 2013
On tap pours a coppery brown color. Strong malt flavor with a good balance of hops.

12 ounce bottle. This one fell flat on me. It was sweet, mellow, and generally uninteresting. The convoluted hop blend unfortunately combines into the palate equivalent of a grade school art class paint mush grey. Amber-copper color, good carbonation and a hardy, medium bodied mouthfeel.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 GIJOE (145) - Monterey, California, USA - JUN 9, 2013
Dark copper, thin tan head, good lacing. Aroma is hops. Taste mostly hop bitterness, but some toasted malt comes through. Medium body, potent carbonation. Good brew.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 crossovert (4772) - Wisconsin, USA - JUN 8, 2013
Great poru for an amber. Amber body and a nice tan head. SMell is mild. It is bread, lgiht cocoa, and light hops. Flavor is caramel malts, light smokiness, medium to low bitterness, some spice.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 tmoreau (1673) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - MAY 29, 2013
Shared 12 oz. bottle poured to "on the rocks" samplers with a clear, amber hue, and modest, light tan head foam. The nose was somewhat musty & stale, with soapy and metallic notes in the flavor. Caramel and light sweetness were the only redeeming factors. A second "past it’s prime" bottle from one brewery in a single sampling session?
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Frank (2189) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 14, 2013
The first thing that strikes me about this beer is it’s lovely copper red color but it unfortunately goes down a bit from there. The nose has a nice floral hop presence but nothing too vibrant or striking. This is a bit on the sweet side and well balanced but the finish is a bit metallic which really diminishes the overall experience. The texture is nice and creamy and not too thick as not to be drinkable but because of that harsh bitterness it is hard to enjoy fully.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 beerandbeyond (463) - ISRAEL - MAY 13, 2013
12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
Clear and gorgeous deep reddish amber color with a decent tan head.
Nutty nose, with earthy and piney hops, dark caramel and toffee.
Sweet juicy caramel malt flavor, med-hi bitterness, almonds, and marmalade.
Medium bodied, rich, balanced and somewhat wintery in character. Cool.

Bottle. Amber pour with tan head. Light hop with malt aromas. Flavor is light with hints of hops, and light caramel and other malt tones.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 ThisWangsChung (494) - Leonardtown, Maryland, USA - APR 7, 2013
Rated 3/31/13. 22 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours a dark reddish-brown color. The head is a two finger heavy cream shade. Retention starts off quickly, then seems to slow down as the bubbles in the head get smaller. Attractive lacing, too.
S: This has a LOT of caramel malt in it, with a slight candied tone thrown in there as well. But the more I whiff it, the more a grassy, lemony hop character comes through. Not bad.
T: Initially, this opens up very caramel-forward. Underlying all the caramel are hints of chocolate, and it finishes with some light Centennial hopping. The flavors here balance out too well - they seem to cancel out the interesting qualities they could have otherwise brought to the table. In other words, a typical amber ale.
M: There’s too much sweetness on the palate, and it’s too thickly textured. The lack of flavor and unctuous palate feel - combined with the slightly-too-strong carbonation - makes this one really difficult to drink.
O: This is the first offering from Speakeasy I’ve had, and I’m not impressed. It’s the poor drinkability combined with the dreadfully boring nature that kills it for me. Others will like this, I don’t - like I said before, a typical amber ale.
It does improve once it warms up, at least.

On tap. Pours a nice amber color with a tan head and lots of lacing. It has a mild aroma of earthy hops and sweet amber malt. It has a fair mix of malt and hops up front and a bittersweet aftertaste over a medium body.
