2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle, bright blood-orange color, virtually no head, big lacing. Big grapefruit nose, bit of malt. Very assertive hop bitterness at the front which never goes away; light caramel malt tries to push itís way in but is denied. A bit watery at the finish. Not really doing it for me overall, despite a very nice initial whiff. Too bitter and dry overall without a good body to back it up.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The first thing that strikes me about this beer is itís lovely copper red color but it unfortunately goes down a bit from there. The nose has a nice floral hop presence but nothing too vibrant or striking. This is a bit on the sweet side and well balanced but the finish is a bit metallic which really diminishes the overall experience. The texture is nice and creamy and not too thick as not to be drinkable but because of that harsh bitterness it is hard to enjoy fully.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
Clear and gorgeous deep reddish amber color with a decent tan head.
Nutty nose, with earthy and piney hops, dark caramel and toffee.
Sweet juicy caramel malt flavor, med-hi bitterness, almonds, and marmalade.
Medium bodied, rich, balanced and somewhat wintery in character. Cool.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Rated 3/31/13. 22 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours a dark reddish-brown color. The head is a two finger heavy cream shade. Retention starts off quickly, then seems to slow down as the bubbles in the head get smaller. Attractive lacing, too.
S: This has a LOT of caramel malt in it, with a slight candied tone thrown in there as well. But the more I whiff it, the more a grassy, lemony hop character comes through. Not bad.
T: Initially, this opens up very caramel-forward. Underlying all the caramel are hints of chocolate, and it finishes with some light Centennial hopping. The flavors here balance out too well - they seem to cancel out the interesting qualities they could have otherwise brought to the table. In other words, a typical amber ale.
M: Thereís too much sweetness on the palate, and itís too thickly textured. The lack of flavor and unctuous palate feel - combined with the slightly-too-strong carbonation - makes this one really difficult to drink.
O: This is the first offering from Speakeasy Iíve had, and Iím not impressed. Itís the poor drinkability combined with the dreadfully boring nature that kills it for me. Others will like this, I donít - like I said before, a typical amber ale.
It does improve once it warms up, at least.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap. Pours a nice amber color with a tan head and lots of lacing. It has a mild aroma of earthy hops and sweet amber malt. It has a fair mix of malt and hops up front and a bittersweet aftertaste over a medium body.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a deep amber color with a 1 inch tan head. Smell is malty and surprisingly hoppy. Taste is very well rounded, lots of malts with the hops to suffice. Medium body with a bitter finish. A bold amber ale, very good.
