Speakeasy Ales and Lagers is happy to introduce Scarface Imperial Stout. A complicated brew – behind its fiercely black exterior is a mélange of subtly different roasted malt flavors that add nuance and depth to a style of beer that is too often heavy and one dimensional. To add a bit of roundness to the flavor we diverted about 20% of the brew into our Heaven Hill bourbon barrels, one of which we topped up with cacao nibs from our friends at local San Francisco organic chocolate makers, TCHO, for a period of oak-aging before blending it back into the primary batch. This is a special beer that reveals a little something different about itself every sip. Bottled. Black pour, tan head with good lacing. Roast malt chocolate and coffee aroma. Roasty, coffee, bittersweet chocolate, nicely bitter finish. Medium full mouthfeel Very balanced. Extremely tasty. A most excellent Imperial Stout. Wish I had more access to Speakeasy's offerings. ---Rated via Beer Buddy from my iPad.

Say ’ello to my little stout... Bourbon is lightly present, you can tell there is a ton of complexity here.

On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours thick inky black with thin mocha head. Laces well. Aroma is molten chocolate and dark malts. Taste is big roasty slightly charred malts with thick rich dark chocolate and fresh espresso on the finish. Not boozy, but easily tastes its 9.5%. Gotta try the bourbon barrel version, this has really piqued my palate.

This blackish beauty is a beast from the underworld. It smells like tar and coffee with notes of hellfire and brimstone and assaults the tongue with malicious bitterness on first sip. Malty nuances dance garishly in the black light of this hoppy hades and the full-bodied, complex, carefully carbonated sludge moves slowly across the palate like the squeamish souls of sinners skidding into Sheol. Sinfully savory.

Aroma of molasses, burnt sugar and mocha. Pitch black color with a massive three finger foam. Strong chocolate overtones with a pleasant caramel, burnt sugar and toffee background. Very silky texture with a milk and big boozy taste on the finish. Overall, very well done. Strong, bitter and full. I’d give this an A+ rating

Very dark beer that tastes just as dark, like a coffee or chocolate. The maltiness is very prominent, almost overwhelming. Easy to taste the alcohol content. Tastes a little bit messy, but still full flavored.

Pours jet black with a soft light brown head. Aroma is vanilla, coffee, molasses and hazelnuts. Taste is very much vanilla, with coffee, chocolate and some dark sugars. Very good! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Really solid imp stout. Cocoa, roasted malt, licorice, hops spice on ze nose. More of that on the tongue, with not-cloying or lingering sweetness, dark-roast coffee, caramel, peatiness. Pleasing boozy warmth on the finish. By the end of the bomber I should be fully Al Capone'd, and I don't mean having syphilis. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting brown head. Aromas of dried fruit, roastiness, dark chocolate and carmel. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of dark chocolate, earthiness, roastiness and light dried fruit with a smooth lingering roasty chocolate finish.
