Pours dark brown with three fingers of thick tan head. Smells of roasted malts. Tastes of roasted malts, coffee, bitter, cocoa, and a little alcohol. Has medium carbonation with lasting malts on the tongue.

Drank as a draft in a bar by the Pacific. Tastes like a good imperial stout but with something strange. Maybe it’s the bourbon barrels but something’s wrong here. Not bad but not very good.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Stunning and unusual imperial stout. Strong chocolate aroma. Taste is roasty stout, not sweet from the malt -- but just a beautiful infusion of bourbon from the aging (apparently just 20% is aged). Adds sweetness and gives the beer an added complexity. Wow. A.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber from Jane’s Beer Store. Beer’s 100th rating! Black with a medium, heavy lacing, long lasting cinnamon tan head. Nose is chocolate, chocolate, more chocolate, roast, vanilla, coffee, and a slight hint of bourbon. Flavor is lightly sweet, lightly bitter chocolate. I would have scored it higher if the bourbon had a slightly higher prominence.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A nicely carbonated brew. It pours very dark and the head dies down to leave a fine layer of foam. In the aroma I picked up on roasted malts, mild coffee, hops, slight sweet bourbon, and dark chocolate. The flavor is mildly bitter and balanced in flavor. I noticed roasted malts, espresso, bitter chocolate, toffee, sugar, hops, and a slight licorice flavor. The finish has a pleasant bitterness with a very minor dryness. I notice a smooth weak bourbon, lite coffee, chocolate, hops, and a sweet malt aftertaste. Overall this was a fine complex brew and worth trying.

Say ’ello to my little stout... Bourbon is lightly present, you can tell there is a ton of complexity here.

On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours thick inky black with thin mocha head. Laces well. Aroma is molten chocolate and dark malts. Taste is big roasty slightly charred malts with thick rich dark chocolate and fresh espresso on the finish. Not boozy, but easily tastes its 9.5%. Gotta try the bourbon barrel version, this has really piqued my palate.

This blackish beauty is a beast from the underworld. It smells like tar and coffee with notes of hellfire and brimstone and assaults the tongue with malicious bitterness on first sip. Malty nuances dance garishly in the black light of this hoppy hades and the full-bodied, complex, carefully carbonated sludge moves slowly across the palate like the squeamish souls of sinners skidding into Sheol.
