Bottle from the Co-op in Davis, CA. Iíve never been a huge fan of rye beers. It is solid with full hop character, but that rye flavor just turns me off. Pretty big on the palate. If you like harsh IPAís then try it.

Luscious ruby tones under a collar of fluffy cream coloured head. Good clarity. The aromas are spicy and of picante peppers as well as old hops. It has a silky and creamy mouthfeel and carries that spicy flavour quite well along with piquant bitterness. Enjoyable beer that is good, but not stunning. Probably consumed best somewhere near the brewery I would imagine.

This has a fair amount of malt that carries the bitterness. There isnít a lot more to say than that, unspectacular.

Ruby red color. The aroma is spicy, chocolate, caramel. The flavor is the same. Spicy, piney finish. Decent overall.

Bottle from Lemon Tree, dated 11/18/13. Big green hop smell right out of the bottle! I also get whiffs of sweet chocolate as the foamy head settles down, donít know why. Dark brown color, big spongy head. By the time I taste it, the hop nose has settled, leaving a big spicy rye flavor. Nope, the hop bitterness is still there, on my teeth. Spice gives that note of cocoa, also some cinnamon and the snap of a wheat cracker.

This is really a beautiful beer: cherrywood brown with a had that leaves rings of lace with each sip. It has a surprisingly strong roasted character that plays nicely off the hops. It is slightly sweet with a texture that maybe is a bit heavy for a moderate gravity beer. Still, this isnít a bad beer to drink, as hot as an APA with some extra malt character for good measure.

Bottled February 5, 2014.
Appearance: The body has stunning clarity, showing off the beautiful garnet/ruby hued body. The tan head is dense, but short lived, settling into an opaque coating which hides the body from the top.
Aroma: Rye is big in here, slightly spicy and doughy, with hints of caramel. The aroma comes off a bit like wet and sort of old grain. Itís not unappealing, but it smells warm despite being cold, if that makes any sense. Like a dog coming in from a Summer shower.
Taste: Nothing offensive about this, but itís definitely heavy on the rye. Bitterness is low, perhaps a little citrus on the finish. The malt base provides a little sweetness while the rye gives a touch of spiciness. Itís not bad, but definitely bland.
Palate: Thick like store bought juice with mild carbonation.
Overall: This is a pass in the future for me. Itís very rye heavy so those who love rye should enjoy this, but I find that thereís nothing else to back it up.

Great malty aroma , nice reddish in color a dit of bite in the tongue over all ok beer love the later , Eye catching! ! This beer would pair well with some chicken fingers .. not to over powering... cigar of choice would be a nice maduro , maybe a padron 2000 series..

nice fuller body to this malty brew with a pronounced broomstraw flavor that is accompanied with some floral and lightly citrus hops. a lingering broomstraw in the finish with perhaps a bit of ivy.

12 oz bottle into chilled tulip glass. Another nice offering from the local boys at Speakeasy Brewery. Good citrus nose, nice hop notes, decent mouth feel, lingering carbonation. If I was forced to choose, Iíd pick Bear Republicís Hop Rod Rye as my favorite rye ale. But thatís no shame on Speakeasy since HRR is at the head of the class. Scarlettís is a quality ale, but wonít replace Prohibition as my brew of choice from Speakeasy.

Bottled on 02/06/14. Nose of very sweet and penetrating citrus hops with slightly vegetal/dank undertones and heavy, heavy rye grains, lightly toasted with some mild gummy spice. Perhaps too much rye, but weíll see. Deep, dark ruby with plenty of carbonation and a large and rocky tan head. Taste is very dry and medium-strong bitter, just all about the toasty rye but with nice spicy and earth hops, lightly floral with some caramel that I donít particularly like. Straight medium body a touch watery and less than effervescent, but itís still close to Goldilocksí zone. A good job as an archetypal íryeí beer if youíre trying to show someone what that is.
