If you stop being a beer snob for a minute this is a decent beer, it has a nice aroma of malt and chocolate pours a dark brown slightly hazy with a lasting rich foam head. A pleasant taste of malt, with a hint of smoke and chocolate. Slightly sweet with a lighter body and a nice sweet chocolate finish.

Was once upon a time my favourite \ go to beer, however there are significantly better brews available. (And I discovered craft beer, so this little guy doesn?t really stand a huge chance)I would say rather sweet for a porter, roasted chocolate flavours, touch of coffee, molasses sweetness, probably one of the better beers you can get mainstream, but as I mentioned earlier, significantly better brews available.Will always be fond of the memories with this one. (First flat / my party beer of choice)

Tastes just like Macs Black Mac (Porter). Try it and see? Neither drop however makes the grade as a true porter. Just black sticky swill with little head and a simple forgettable palate. Many better breweries out there producing traditional style porters with more complex flavours.

Out of all the pigs’ swill low grade piss you could be pouring down your sub-par neck in New Zealand, this would be one of the ’better’ ones: its misfortune and wretchedness is covered by such a sticky layer of over-powering sweetness. However, I couldn’t see myself drinking more than one in a row.

Tap at sudima hotel, christchurch nz. Almost black color, tanned head. Aroma is mainly malty, roasty. Light roasty body, smooth, sweet caramel notes.

Sweet beer. Not as in good. But sweet like sugar. Some molasses flavor too.

This beer is best consumed in the South island and to see it exported to Tui country is a real worry. Maybe it is an acquired taste for uni of Otago graduates. Don’t buy it in the North island unless you are desperate. Probably opens legs of ex Otago uni girls but best avoided unless in extremis.

The head medium, with a black body with sweet flavor (like all kiwi things) with roasted malt and caramel.

Tasted 6/2/2014. Draught at Coroglen Tavern, NZ. Poured a deep ruby red colour with only an off-white collar but it laced OK. Carbonation low. Aroma of sweet malts. Taste of sweet malt, malt, malt! plus a slight roasted malt taste as it warmed. Light body (a bit larger-like). Smooth and malty with a slightly sweet and slightly bitter finish. Very nice!

A malty brown Porter with problems. Malt profile seems heavier on the cara and crystal malt than the roast and chocolate malt. It’s toasty, crusty and bready with weak choco-coffee-roast notes. Fruity / estery apples with a minor vinegar acid tingle, sits sweet and thin on the palate with a short caramel / toffee and apple finish. Rich chestnut brown body with a frothy tan head. From draft.
