Tap. Enjoyable amber ale. Aromas of roasted malt. Sweet taste, with average duration. Velvety palate, and medium body. Brown colour, with a frothy white head.

Quite a fine beer but not my style. A bit sweet in flavor with very little to remember.

Bottle. Clear copper-penny amber, 1cm almond head, dense with decent retention. Grainy aroma with some caramel and a hint of breadcrusts. Grainy caramel flavour, a suggestion of marzipan fruitiness, and a dry short finish with low bitterness. Just okay for me.

Aromas are quite basic - malt, caramel and some hop. Flavours are very sweet, mostly of caramel, bready malt and some apricot tones. Butterscotch is there, but I would say it is more of an off flavour. Quite smooth and clean on the palate, clean probably because there is no aftertaste at all - reminiscent of water. Basic and too sweet, but overall, not awful.

Small white head. Lovely deep amber body. Fruity cedar wood aroma. Dry-sweet earthy prunes and wood taste with sherry notes. A bit sugary. Thinnish body. Mild mouthfeel. Aftertaste is the same, with some added caramel. Quite nice, but feels a bit artificial. (0.2l sampler, The Southerner, London.)

On Tap Speights Ale House. Dark amber/brown beer with a small white head. Sweet beer thats malt dominating with traces of caramel. Not much in the way of bitterness, I think they said 17 IBU’s. Has the characteristic Speights Signiture to it with their ale yeast.
