jollyraider (253), Los Angeles (Westwood), California, USA May 26, 2006 Ah, the old Pride of the South. Speights GMA is basically the Bud of the South Island. As the de facto average beer, it’s pretty good. Very run of the mill in every sense, and not offensive in any way. I visited NZ recently and tried to explain American fizzy yellow beer to a Speights drinker, who couldn’t comprehend it. So power to New Zealand, where this decent beer is just about as bad as it gets.
HughConway (259), USA Aug 17, 2008 Draft. Clear golden with slight head. Decent aroma, decent taste. Very good sessioning beer. Impression heavily influenced by south S. Island atmosphere. Not bad in cans either. KimJohansen (3026), Copenhagen V, Denmark Aug 4, 2008 Clear golden with medium white head. Sweet fruity aroma with floral hops. Sweet flavor with floral hops and caramel notes. Ends mild bitter. azlondon (480), Greater London, England Jul 1, 2008 Appearance: Amber brown. Quite a lot of head.
Aroma: Hint of caramel. Metallic? Some malt.
Taste: Quite malty and hoppy. Some bitterness. Dry.
Info: 330ml bottle, 20/6-2007 patricks110 (142), Alberta, Canada Jun 23, 2008 Not too bad. Had in bottle. Hoppy and grass aroma which has hints of nuttiness. Dark orangey brown colour with medium off white head. Taste is of malts and caramels. Kiwi_Jonno (39), Christchurch, New Zealand Jun 19, 2008 Updated: Aug 16, 2008On tap. Iv always had a soft spot growing up for the "Southern Man" beer. Gentle grassy hop aroma. Can’t comment on head size as keg pours a huge head. Short lasting head though I thought. Amber brown beer. Hops that are complex but weak in bitterness dominate this beer. Better then CD/DB etc.
