On tap Speight Ale House. Aroma of strong dark roasted malts. Typical red/black beer with a off white head. Dark roasted malts dominate the taste as well. Nice mouth-feel and goes down smooth.

This beer tastes and looks delicious, but it would be better if it was 5%ABV. The best aspect of Speights Old Dark is how it always goes down smooth.

Draught at the Powder Keg in Ohakune, dark brown witha filmy beige head. A sweet roast malt aroma of molasses. A this, slightly metallic palate. Molasses and roasted malt in the drying finish. Have admit that I enjoyed this more than I expected.

Draught. Very deep amber colour, small white head. ARoma is caramel malts, some bready notes, as well as saltwater. Flavour is raisins, sweet malts. Not very exciting, though it was the best of the ones at The Southerner in London for the moment of the Speights ones.

Clear brown with large beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and mild nutty notes. Sweet flavor with roasted malt, chocolate and caramel. Ends sweet.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2008 20.07.2008. 0,33 l, Can, Luzern. Smells almost nothing and there is no head. Carbonation is flat. The colour is brown. The taste does not match the nice appearance. Nice malty taste. I dont think this is a Porter. The body is not full enugh and it dont have the strength.

Not exactly a porter. Although the appearance of the beer is that it looks like coca cola, the taste is not bold enough for me to think of it as a porter. Aroma is of nutty malts. The beer is smooth and tasty.

A Sim rate (draft at Speights Southerner pub in Temple, London): Caramely, nutty aroma. Wish it was a little stronger. Bittersweet. Nice red/brown appearance with a head that really lasts. The flavour is smooth, with caramel and a bit of burnt toast. It’s so, so smooth. Not harsh at all. I’d like another of these, please!

Half pint from tap served xtra cold at The Southerner , Temple, London. Dark brown red-tinged body with lacing on the glass. Light roasted malty to the nose. Notes of dark chocolate malts in flavour supported by a touch of sweet caramel. Too diluted palate for a porter. It’s a pity that the ice cold serving temperature took some of the flavour from all of the Speights beers at the bar (01.05.2008).
