COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Speights Porter is based on a double-malt stout recipe brewed until 1929 at Speight's Brewery. A red-black beer with a rich robust palate and complex, full aromas. Best savoured at 6 degrees Celsius. A blend of crystal, caramalt, roasted wheat and choclate malt combine to give a complex, smokey, mocha aroma and a rich coffee flavour which finishes on a subtle choclate note. (On tap) Opaque black with a beige head. Sweet aroma of hard roasted malts and licorice. Medium-bodied, sweetish burned malt accents and some licorice. Dry but not overly bitter finish. 250108

Very nice porter. Very strong chocolate and coffee flavours with a thick/creamy mouthfeel.

Nearly black colour. Coffee ground aroma. Bitter espresso flavour. Quick thin finish. Probably the best beer I’ve had from Speights.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, medium tan head. Aroma: dark roast character, deep woody notes, clean dark malts. Medium light bodied with gentle mineral-acidic mocha, medium dark barley. Simple yet pleasant.

Bitter coffee nose, some dark chocolate, deep brown, red at the edges. Flavours are coffee, chocolate, pit fruits, with red plum being most prominent. Light bodied, pleasantly bitter. Quite good!

Deep brown color, tan head. Sweet milk chcoolate, oak, mild roast, slightly tart. Light dryness. Medium bodied. Not bad, probably worth a try.

Thanks to Sammy for this one. Chocolate, oak, a little alcohol, milk, hops in the nose. Flavor is kind of boring. Deep but not dark malt, chocolate, dryish finish.

30 Mar 2006 - Big sweet roasted malt aroma. Black colour, good brown head and good sheet lacing. Light sweet smokey roasted malt flavour. A bit thin, bitter malt finish, roasted malt aftertaste.

Draught. Spare tan head over a clear black-ruby body. Espresso like aroma and taste of chocolate, roasted wood, coffee. Spicey balanced finish. Full bodied.

Surprising, especially from Speights. Was expecting something very thin and void of any significant flavour. This had flavour, not big and rich or anything, but fairly tasty. Light roasted malt tones, caramelly, with some light peatyness, enjoyable, but not overly complex.
