COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by traditional refectory ales brewed by monks for the monks’ table, Spencer is a full-bodied, golden-hued Trappist ale with fruit accents, a dry finish and light hop bitterness. St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spenser, Massachusetts, is home to a community of Trappist monks and the first American Trappist brewery. Following the Benedictine tradition of ora et labor (prayer and work), the monks pursue a simple life of contemplative prayer, a manual labor and hospitality. The brewery helps support the monks and their charitable outreach.

Free pour at the Tip Tap Room (the keg kicked while they were pouring my glass it seems so I got a complimentary glass, cool!). Pours a clear golden with a medium white head that leaves some really nice lacing. Nose is spicy (cloves), bananas and candi sugar. Taste is a little sweet, offers some authentic belgian fruity and spicy flavors. It might be phenolic a little but this is not cloying at all and just classic trappist to me. There is almost some light wheat or at least grainy smooth character to it. Body was light to medium, carbonation medium to high. A really nice surprise! Maybe I was influenced by the free pour but I felt like it was really well crafted and in line with the advertised style.

Opened the bottle and it fizzed for a long time, then poured it, a lazy yellow with a large white head, the fruity easters are awesome. The taste is a bit sweet up front due to the fruits with some malty and honey characteristics, the hops come through a little bit at the end

On draft @ AleHouse Amesbury, MA. Pours and cloudy golden orange type color with lasting head retention. Aroma is all yeast byproduct! Clove, banana and fruity hints.

Flavor is yeast dominant and follows the aroma. Clove, peaches, banana and dusty yeast. Is is a lot of banana for a "Belgian" ale. Yeah, maybe so but I like what is going on here, when it got warm I also got a spicy hint from the yeast with some candy sugar I didn’t find when it was cold. The body is lacking slightly but really the base beer is like a Trappist/ hefeweizen hybrid. I like what this brewery was going for and hope they continue to create some exciting new brews to add to their lineup. Worth a try for sure and I could drink this again if offered.

Bottle shared by Vance at Ale Alpharetta. Pours a hazy yellow, with a bubbly white head. The aroma is immediately fruity esters, with notes of mango and white grapes, and some cloves and white bread. The flavor is sweet and vinous, with a light tartness. Surprisingly light body, creamy, and effervescent. Overall, this is an excellent beer, with a nice, fruity aroma, and a clean, refreshing, and very drinkable body.

Belgian yeast in the nose that is estery and clean. Golden appearance with cloudy residual. Highly attenuated leaving dry mouth feel and no residual sweetness. Slight bitter note in the palate. Almost a bitter orange finish. Great launch for the new brewer.

Drank with Hugo 9-6-2014. Decent beer but not very good. A bit watery, not very expressive taste. Smells a bit like nuts. Fruity hints.

Been wanting to try this for a while. Finally got the opportunity at The Deck, Salisbury. $4.50 for the 12 oz. bottle To pint, it pours a deeply rich orange sustaining an off-white head 1 finger in length. Aromas of bubblegum, wheat grain, cloves, and Belgian yeast. Tastes the same with the addition of coriander, mint, fruit leather, and Bible paper. Bittersweet, fluffy, and somewhat spicy. Respectable.

Smell cloves yeast. Pours gold hazy. Taste strong cloves dry, yeasty. Not bad. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm
