COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by traditional refectory ales brewed by monks for the monks’ table, Spencer is a full-bodied, golden-hued Trappist ale with fruit accents, a dry finish and light hop bitterness. St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, is home to a community of Trappist monks and the first American Trappist brewery. Following the Benedictine tradition of ora et labor (prayer and work), the monks pursue a simple life of contemplative prayer, a manual labor and hospitality. The brewery helps support the monks and their charitable outreach.

Classic Belgian Trappist aroma with some fermented fruits and typical yeast spiciness. Taste has some wit texture to it, otherwise resembles the aroma. All in all a really nice abbey blond ale.

Small but don’t head, clear golden. Candy, perfume. Medium to full body, malty sweetness, but since lagerish acidic aftertaste. Finish spoils the impression.

Very mediocre brew, specially if you compare it what we are used to call "trappist". Nothing bad, but just nothing interesting.

A bottle from the supermarket in the basement of Shinkong Mitsukoshi, drunk at home. Nice head, great aroma of dough. Palate and taste rather one dimensional, breadiness predominates. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it and would gladly have another [old notes].

33cl bottle. Hazy orange with small white. The beer has a typical aroma of a Belgian Blond : sponge cake, apricot, banana and grape fruity esters, spicy pepper, white cheese and dough. The taste is really well balanced between sweet and bitter finish bitterness is quite strong yet has a nice spicy profile reminding …Westvleteren Blond or Westmalle Triple. Alcohol is well hidden. This is a really great beer.

330ml bottle. Pours a hazy orange-gold with lots of sediment floating around and a large, frothy, long lasting, off-white head that laces. Sweet aroma of floral fruit, citrus, Belgian yeast and caramel. Sweet flavour of citrus, Belgian yeast, caramel, bready malt and grass with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation.
