Inspired by traditional refectory ales brewed by monks for the monks’ table, Spencer is a full-bodied, golden-hued Trappist ale with fruit accents, a dry finish and light hop bitterness. St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, is home to a community of Trappist monks and the first American Trappist brewery. Following the Benedictine tradition of ora et labor (prayer and work), the monks pursue a simple life of contemplative prayer, a manual labor and hospitality. The brewery helps support the monks and their charitable outreach.

330ml bottle (Koht, Tallinn)
Gusher. Don’t do that (-1 to appearance automatically for that). Plain cookie-cutter belgian ale aroma. Light palate. Clean glass was duller taste - belgian ale yeast. Hazy glass gained some vanilla and more breadiness. Cloudy glass is softer, in some ways more boring, but more pleasant - fills out nicely. Finish has gentle perfumey hops, more in the cloudy glass - definitely pour all the yeast in.

Pale yellow. No head. Flowery aroma. Almost seems like wheat based. Flowery, caramelly beginning. Yeasty. Bit fruits and sweetness in the middle. Some crisp also. Sweet finish. Flowery aftertaste. Rather medium bodied, bit sweet, but drinkable trappist.
