COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by traditional refectory ales brewed by monks for the monks’ table, Spencer is a full-bodied, golden-hued Trappist ale with fruit accents, a dry finish and light hop bitterness. St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spenser, Massachusetts, is home to a community of Trappist monks and the first American Trappist brewery. Following the Benedictine tradition of ora et labor (prayer and work), the monks pursue a simple life of contemplative prayer, a manual labor and hospitality. The brewery helps support the monks and their charitable outreach.

Tasted in a flight, accidentally after an IPA, and other highly exuberant beers, tastes watery. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tasted at Birch & Barley, Washington, DC. Pours cloudy orange-amber with a generous off-white head. Nose is grass, lemon, cloves, spices, coriander, orange zest, and subtle yeast. Flavour is bitter hops, pine nut, lemon drop, spices, and cloves. Very interesting Trappist ale from the USA but I love the Belgians so much I can't help but compare. They win.

A really nice, easy drinking trappist ale. A touch of cloves and yeast notes. Great on the palate with a wonderful aroma.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2015 Bottle. Pours an orange color with white head. Belgian yeast, esters, hay, bread, sweet malt aromas. Bread, yeasty, malty flavors. I was anticipating more out of this beer. Not overly impressive.

On tap @ Novare Res.

Appearance: Slightly hazy bright orange-golden with a small white head and good lacing.

Aroma: Quite fruity with Belgian yeast, light spiciness and hints of caramel.

Taste: Quite yeasty with moderate spiciness, caramel, fruits and also hints of rotten fruits.

Palate: Medium body. Moderate to medium carbonation. Mild spicy finish.

Overall: Decent Belgian Ale. Not much malt depth, but ok balance and drinkability.

Toasted cereal aroma with Belgian yeastiness. Clean label on a sloped longneck. Brumous orange-tan, impressive head. Toasted cereal dominates -- Cheerios, Chex, something like that. Tangy. Satisfying mouthfeel and finish. I generally liked this, but there was a woody yeastiness that just stuck around too long. ABC Liquors, Betton.

On draft at Morris Tap and Grill in Randolph. My first from this brewer. Pretty decent American Belgian Ale.

Tallahassee, Fl - Quick N Save - 11.2 oz bottle, pours a slightly hazy medium golden with an ever-present filmy white head. Fresh fragrant aroma with some light yeasty accents, a touch of saffron spiciness, hints of coriander. Flavor is subtle and smooth, some coriander spiciness, a touch of bubblegum sweetness, some light spearmint notes. Mouthfeel has a nice sold spritz to it Very enjoyable.
