3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very classical Bamberg Rauchbier (along with Aecht Schenkerla) linked to a brewery, malt house and pub with roots dating back to 1536. Amber coloured with brownish hue, stable yellowish head; clearly smoked aroma of charcoal, smoked bacon and peat, but malt sweetness and some banana too, less ’attacking’ than the Aecht Schenkerla smoked beers; caramelly, clean malt taste, complex thanks to the subtle and elegant smokiness, not too dry, satisfying finish.

Alla spina. Aroma di cereala, miele e tocco affumicato più leggero rispetto alla Marzen. Sempre con un ottima bevibilità.

Leathery smoke aroma. Amber clear white head. Lots of leather and some smoke in the taste. Long lasting smokey finish. Fantastic smokiness with enough body in the background although being a lager.

Bottle. Half for me and half for the Chilli that I’m cooking. I figured the smoke would be just what the chilli needed. We’ll see. Pours Deep clear Amber with an off-White head. Wet wood smoke on the nose. Quite a decent, dry lager with just a touch of smoke to it. I rather enjoyed it though I reckon my chilli would have preferred a more dramatic Rauchbier.

Vom fass at the brewpub. Clear copper pour with foamy white head. Nice smoky aroma, rich chewy smoke, definitely in schlenkerla’s league, meaty, bacon notes, clean. Taste is smoky, potent smoky flavors with nice subtle malt base, never sweet or yeasty, very clean and dry, super easy drinking. Palate is light, maybe just a tad watery, light carbonation. Good stuff.

Bottle. Orange gold in color with a small head. Aroma was indeed smokey. Taste was also amokey, kind of like a smoked ham.
