Made with barley malt cured by natural beechwood smoke right in the brewery, in the old tradition of Bamberg.

Bottle from Getränkenfeinkost. I had this straight from the bottle so the appearance is set at a median 3. Aroma is smoky, woody and grassy. Taste is smoky, woody, light malty, spicy and peppery. Medium body, high soft carbonation, soft and smooth mouth feel, yet dry. Smoky, herbal bitter aftertaste with slight yeast notes.

Hands down one of the best smoked beers I’ve had. Not as sweet as many can be.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2016 Copper color with tan head. Aroma is smokey ham and light sweetness, good balance. Taste is light smoke, light sweetness, but the beer behind it comes through as well. Refreshing and rather light and well-balanced Rauchbier. Good! 7-4-6-4-15 = 3.6. At the brewery. The carbonation is a bit higher than expecte, but the aroma is delightful and the beer nicely balanced, not overtaking. 8-4-7-4-15

Colour is amber and clear. Foam is okay, disappears again fast but sticks to the side of the glass.. Aroma sweet and smokey with some wood. Not too heavy. Fizzy in mouth, primary in the front of the tongue, but the general mouth feel is good. Smokey notes and tobacco, but also caramel, sweet dried fruits like raisin, and a hint of toffee and vanilla. Recommended as and introduction to rauchbier :-)

A rauchbier should be smoky, like a slightly aged smoked ham. This is amongst the best straight forward Rauchbiers there are. A good fresh and drinkable smoked beer. Wow!

Clear amber color with lots of thick off white head. Looks really nice and the foam curtains beautifully throughout the drinking. Strong but balancd aroma of smoke and leather. Much milder tasting beer than the aroma lets you think. It has a light sweetness to it and the smokeyness seem to only dominate the aroma. Not much bitterness. Over all a good balance between the smokey aroma and the sweet taste. Good medium full body.

50cl bottle at home. Clear amber with medium slightly off-white head. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Subtle smokey sweet- and bitterness. Malts, caramel, smoke, grain and herb. Tasty smoked brew.

Draft at Brauerei Spezial in Bamberg during the Post-Christmas Bamberg Jolly of January 2014. Pours clear, rich amber-gold with a frothy, white head. Gorgeous, with light smoke in the nose, moderately sweet flavour, fire, beechwood, toasted cereal. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Moderate smokey fire on the finish, with dry cured ham, toasted bread. Excellent beer.

Corpo medio, mediamente carbonata, abbastanza acquosa, molto beverina.

0,5l bottle from a grocery store in Bamberg. Pours clear chestnut with a high head. Aroma is malts and smoked ham. Flavor is malts, smoked ham and hops. It’s no Schlenkerla, but not bad.
