At first I was really impressed with the smoked taste but after a few minutes I began to struggle with it. The smokiness overpowers any other flavours eventially making it a difficult beer to drink.

Orange amber. Off white head. Salty smoke nose. Carmelized malts, nutty, leather, toasted malts. A perfect underlying smoke smoke character, subdued but always there. A very nice brew, perfect with smoked foods. I will be searching for the breweries other offerings with anticipation!

Copper body with dense miniscule suspended particulates. Aroma of smoke and burnt pumpkin. Decent flavor of squash, apples, and smoked bacon. An enjoyable smoke beer.

Somewhat hazy amber body. Tee haze was likely a chill-haze as it cleared up as it warmed. The quickly collasing head is white a frothy, and diminshes ti just a thin film. The aroma is smoke, peat, and little bit of malt. The flavor is much the same with a bit of sweetness right after the swallow, but then a very smoked beef jerky finish dominates. The body is medium and fairly smooth. A nice beer that seems as if it would pair nicely with a nice big rare steak. Yum.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2005 Pours a clouded brown-orange. Tons of tiny particles hang suspended in this. Nose is smoked meat. I cant get anything else from this. Its the same with all of this style. The taste is more smoked meat and maybe some wood. Its lighter than some of the others smoked beers I have had and that makes it more appealing but this style is going to take more getting used to than lambics and geuezes, it seems. Finishes, well, like smoked meat.

Cloudy amber color, with plenty of susupended yeast throughout the brew.Small white head that lasted for a decent amount of time and left a decent lace behind. The aroma was malty and mildly hopped with just a very faint hint of smoke to it.The flavor was malty and mildly bitter with hops. The smoke seems to have to struggle to make a decent appearance,no doubt it's there but only faintly. The after taste is hoppy with a light bitterness. Not a bad brew but since i like a little more smoke to my brew, this one doesn't do it for me.It works out well as a lager but as a smoked brew it just doesn't get there.Worth trying atleast once but nothing more then that.

Tap, In De Wildeman Jan 2004. Deep amber bronze, good white lasting head and moderate condition. Initial grassy hop notes with a caramely woodsmoke note developing but never really dominating. Malty sweet in the mouth with a slight roasted barley note and a delicate underlying smokiness. Long malt roasted finish with traces of hop bitterness and smoke lingering well. Much more restrained than the Schlenkerla.

Pours with a big white head, a hazy yellow with floaties. Wounderful gentle smokey aroma. All malt flavor with a nice smoke compliment. Me and my brewing partner have made Rauch just like this berfore. Outstanding. Not overly smoked and perfect. YUM.

Hazy amber with medium-large off-white head. Aroma is relatively mild smoky, more of a smoked cheese, with some sweetness and some grassy. Taste is just what the aroma suggests, with some roasty and even caramel. Its relative mildness suggests it would make a good introduction to Bamberg beers for those who might be intimidated by the Aecht Scherlenka.
