3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This was pretty decent. I am not sure if I had this or the Marzen, but from the description, I am pretty sure this was the one I tried. I already had the Marzen and this seemed different.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden orange, crystal clear with a small white head. Nose is malt up front but backed by a hefty smack of smoke which becomes more prevalent in the flavor. Definitely strongly in the rauchbier tradition but much more subtle than some other examples--you can actually taste the beer here.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft - I was surprised at how pale in color this one was. It is about the color of iced tea. Had a rocky beige head. Smoky nose. The flavor was not too smoky and I got a surprising amount of grape in it - like a sweet white wine. Odd.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Woody and spicy smoke, very faint pine, sweet malt, hint of sherry (may be slight oxidation). Dull light amber color, thin off white head. Sweet malty flavor, buttery and bread-like, smoke is present but not overpowering. Medium-full body, smooth. Nice smoked beer, much less intense than others in the style.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Amber with olive and orangey highlights; small amberish head. Smoked ham nose, smoked beechwood, branches of fenouil, fire-heated chestnuts, hot bread and cool autumn leaves. Almost metallic, coppery smoked taste, as from food heated in a copper pot; honey-cured smoked ham, with bread and salted butter included, all liquidised and pepped up with fresh spring water. Medium bodied, lighter than the Märzen or the Schlenkerla. Super, one of my favourite styles. The Märzen I seem to have liked better, the Schlenkerla will always be more brutal, less refined.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at Rich O’s: Poured a clear, very light amber. A little darker than Budweiser. Medium white head. Mild smoke aroma. Flavor is lightly smoked with a bit of hops and a little grape. Mildly bitter finish. Decent and a hell of a lot less smoky than Schlenkerla.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep copper hue that is a bit cloudy and has about and inch tall white head. The head dissolved fairly quickly into a light bubbly cap on the beer with almost no sign of lacing. There is definitely a smoky scent detectable but it does not completely dominate the aroma. Some malt sweetness stood out as well with hints of spiciness detected. The taste is very similar to the smell with a definite smokiness with sweet malt and a slight hoppiness present. The finish was dry and smoky which hung around in the mouth for a while. This has a good medium body and a very smooth drinking beer. This was my first experience with a Rauchbier and I am very intrigued by the style. It has a great unique taste and would defiantly recommend this to anyone who has not tried the style.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Amber in color with a large off white head. Aroma is slightly smoke and slight sweetness. Flavor is smoke and some grains. A good brew but I prefered the Schlenkerla.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark, black. Medium head. Smoked aroma, but not enough. Palate is ok but a bit thin. Pure smoke in the flavor.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 5, 2013 Aroma of sweet fruit and shoe leather. A great looking beer. Cloudy, red, and a thick head. A chemical flavor followed by a light smoked taste. November 28, 2004. 5/5/5/2/12.
Nine years after first trying this beer from a bottle. and having learned to love smoked beers, I can substantially raise my score after having it on draught at Spezial. Clear brown color. Lots of smoke in the aroma. Roasted meat and dry malt. The smoke is dominant here, and that is great.
