Bottle. Pours a golden amber colour with creamy head. Aroma is vanilla, dusty, smoky. Taste is ashy, malty and some nuttiness, caramel too. Very drinkable and not overly smoky.

Sep 6, 2008 500ml Bottle: Faint aroma of wheat bread, light toasting, light smoke, and wood. Poured amber in color with a small, creamy, tan head that disappeared quickly. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is lightly bitter. Tastes of smoke, caramel, nuts, cardboard, and wood. Medium body. Thinish, chalky texture. Soft to average carbonation. Thin, dry, smoke and cardboard finish.

Sep 4, 2008 Bottle: Poured a clean light brown color ale with a one-inch foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of smoke is not as present as I would have expected. Taste is a mix between a light caramel malt bills with some medium smoke. Average body with some good carbonation. Easily quaffable but not as much character as I would have expected.

Sep 1, 2008 Bottle: Clear red colour, with a creamy head. Aroma of smokey,malty,dust,grassy and hay. Flavor is mild mouth feeling,thin body,short smokey finish.

This one is a lighter version of the Aecht Rauchbier. A good way to try the Raucbier style for those not familiar with the latter.
Pours amberish color, white head.
Aroma is malty, lightly smokey.
Taste is also filled with smokey malt, the smokey becomes more apparent in the after taste. Taste remains more grainy than its other Bamberg counterpart.

Had this just after a tour of the brewery. A great rauchbier with great balance of smoke and malt. This is clearly not a smoky as Schlenkerla and it’s a better bier for it. Much more drinkability in this one. I could have quite a few.
