DewBrewer (248), Austin, Texas, USA May 24, 2006 On draught at Spezial in March, 2006. Nothing like some Rauch Marzen on your first trip to Bamberg after 20 something hours of travel. Brown color, nice head. Malty aroma with plenty of smokiness. Great flavor with delicious up-front smoke in delicious caramel. The balance of flavors is extraordinary. Excellent beer.
henrikb (1097), Aarhus, Denmark Aug 31, 2008 Draft - Chestnut body, sparkle, long lasting fluffy beige head; Caramel sugary malt nose; Very soft caramel sweet body, soft sparkle; Malt bitter finish with hop apparent as bitterness, some cow shit aromas. Boring with an incredibly bad finish. scotty (740), Scotland Aug 23, 2008 Bottle, thanks to Ronnie! A much lighter style than Schlenkerla, but is still remarkably smooth and satisfying. The smokiness is much more noticable on the nose than on the palate, there is however a delicate smokiness which lingers well on the long finish. A crackin’ beer, but lacks the oomph of Schlenkerla. rickgordon (3061), Göteborg, Sweden Aug 11, 2008 On draught at the brewpub.
Dark copper brown colour. Cottony head. Aroma from smoe and chocolate. Good smokey backbone in flavour with accompanying caramel. Tastiest beer at this brewery! DSG (850), Yuvalim, Israel Aug 9, 2008 (6/31/08) Bottle at the brewpub in Bamberg. Deep red color with a beige head. Aroma is quite smoky with some sausages. Sweetish flavor at first with some caramel and slightly drier afterwards with smoked meat. Medium-bodied. Pub (4046), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Jul 12, 2008 On tap at Brauerei Spezial, Bamberg. Brown, copper with cream head. A bit farmy on the nose, the smell of burning manure. There is more of a smokiness in the malt, but remains quite light in character. Malty and sweet, it suffers from a lack of balance to me.
