Moravius (499) - Berlin, GERMANY - SEP 19, 2014
Flasche von Hopfen & Malz, Berlin-Wedding. - Tiefes Kupferrot, klar.

Colore ramato, piuttosto limpida, schiuma persistente. Aroma affumicato molto intenso, corpo quasi watery, molto beverina e bilanciata. Si fa preferire rispetto alla Schlenkerla.

TAR (2499) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - JUL 15, 2014
Tap at Spezial brewpub in Dec. 2011: Beaming rusty-chestnut. Fine-bubbled ivory halo of foam. Bright candied plum and fresh melanodin-rich malt aromatics interlaced with pumpernickel bread, shoe polish, milk chocolate, creamed coffee, rock candy and toffee pudding. Stiff, loose, big-bubbled carbonation. Remarkably textured first gulp reveals staunch minerals beneath a complex tobacco, milk chocolate earthiness, and melanoidiny interplay. Delicate kiss of plum acid cuts the beefy malt and enhances the bright and snappy minerals. Pervasive rauch character is long, soft and notably refined, with no discernible raspiness. Deep creamed coffee and well-measured hard candy notes lap the palate while riding the perpetually rich malty wave. Charcoal sharpness and firm hazelnut accents offer plenty of contrast to the lush malt bedding. Super ripe punch of fruity esters heightens drinkability, as appropriately subtle as it is. Scrubbing minerals couple with sassy licorice flavors as they punctuate the continued malty succulence. A supremely flavorsome yet perilously drinkable rendition that’s bursting with melanoidins. My favorite beer from Spezial. Simply fantastic.

Great German smokebeer, on par with the greats from Aecht Schlenkerla. Has that fine oaky malty taste of smoke.

Bamberg jolly day 3 26/01/2014. Bottle shared on the train. Had this a couple of time before. Aroma is smoked, sausage, salami and sweetnutty brown malts. Flavour is biscuity malts, toffee and smoked meats and wood. Some puckering in the finish. Average palate. Overall very blaanced and smoked malt is integrated well.

Day 3 of the post Xmas Bamberg Jolly, bottle from Spezial shared on the train from Nuremberg to Freising, 26/01/14. Clear dark amber with a moderate beige covering that retains well. Nose is smoked malts, toffee, smoked gammon, bread dough. Taste comprises caramel, smoked malts, brown sugars, earthy bread tones. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Great stuff, decent level of smoke, well balanced, the best train beer of the weekend (the CDA aside) !

On tap at Bierbörse Osterode. Deep golden in the glass, light brownish, small head. Mild-smokey aroma. Starts mild malty, modest roasty-smokey, not too intense. Finish still mild, modest smokey, hints of cookies. Some notes of caramel. Not bad!
