From tap at the brewery. Red mahogany with a nice creamy head. The aroma has notes of smoke, malt and sweetness, and the flavour is smooth with a light sweetness, nice smokey notes of eel - and the overall impression is very well balanced and nice.

Bottle, 5.3%. Weak malty aroma, slightly roasted. Clear dark brown colour. Small tan head. The flavour is quite malty with a certain grainy horse stable flavour, presumably from the smoke malt. I do not get much smoke flavour in this, but it is quite good.

bottle, thanks to Bochum! Clear amber colour, large and creamy beige head. Aroma of smoked malt. Medium-bodied, with slightly smoked flavour, hints of roasted malt, slightly fruity and hoppy.

Quite an attractiver beer, deep caramel in color with a tan head. Nose is malty and smoke. The flavor is subtle smoke and a tad sweet. Pretty good stuff.

(bottle, purchased at the brewery) Clear, reddish amber colour with a thick, light-beige foamy head, leaving lace-work. Moderately sweet toast-malty, slightly smoked and rooty aroma with caramel, subtle dried fruity notes and a light herbal hoppy background. Moderately sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a soft and pleasantly matured mouthfeel. Slightly smoked malty taste with toasted barley and soft smoky notes, becoming a bit more intense towards the sweet-bitter and lasting finish. A goodie but –if smoked- I prefer the smokiness without compromise done by Schlenkerla (11.02.08).

UPDATED: JUL 17, 2009 Draft @ brewpub. Gorgeous dark copper with thick tan head, served in long mug. Mellow, masculine rich malty aromas. Nice smoke levels. The body is fantastic, relatively subtle, and the malts are sweet, smokey and satisfying. Lovely brew.

Bottled. A dark red/brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is malty with a touch of smoke. The flavour is malty with a good smokiness and some caramel notes. Quite light body, a little touch of hops in the finish, long smokey aftertaste. Maybe less complex than Schlenkerla but more balanced. All in all well made.

ante (3374) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - OCT 19, 2007
Bottled. Clear dark amber colour with a rish white foam. Biscuity and a bit smokey aroma with notes of hay and white bread. Medium-bodied. Nutty and biscuirty malty flavour with some delicate subtle smokey undertones. Hints of grass and cookies. Mild smoke, cookies, grass, bread and toasted malts in the finish. A well made mild rauchbier. Not bad!

Gusgus (219) - Mölndal, SWEDEN - OCT 3, 2007
Doughy, bready, slightly yeasty aroma. Very faint hops aroma that tends to be fruity on the citrusy side. The smoke is not up front, but is more reminicent of fire baked bread. copper coloured and not crystal clear. Average sized creamy head. Somewhat sweet and almost thin body. Lacking hops. Some burnt astringency. Lightly carbonated. Dryish bitter aftertaste. Very lightly smoked beer that lacks bitterness at the end. Recommended for the beginner.
