A Hefeweizen mit Flaschengärung, made from wheat malt and smoked barley malt, with refermentation in the bottle. The bottle will be poured at the servery and will not be brought to your table, as is the custom here. Hazy to murky appearance, not so much foam as usual for a Hefeweizen. Fruity (some banana, some citrus), malty-sweet plus slightly smoked taste, creamy mouthfeel. Some slight bitterness in the aftertaste. Not really my cup of eh.... beer, but interesting.

Complete hazy body, deep sandy-amber. Good off white head. Aroma; wheat malts, meadow spices, ripe banana, clove, coriander, white bread dough. Taste; sweet powerful malts, ripe banana, coriander, clove, dough, bread, fruitiness - leading to a malty finish with bread and fruits. Good body, soft carbonation, overall a good weißen. On tap at Spezial in Bamberg. Bready smell but not allot of foam banana. Similar taste, even less foam banana in the taste. Drinkable but their smoke beer was way better.

Draught at Spezial Keller, Bamberg, Germany. Cloudy amber, medium to large white head. Slightly spicy, phenolic aroma, some fruity notes. Medium bodied, medium to high carbonation. Dry, low bitterness. Quite good.

At the source Spezial Brewery in Bamberg-Germany. Pours an extreme cloudy golden dark color, not that right but nice enough. Nose: clove and banana, tart notes here and there as well. Mouth: the greates end (dry) among the weisses I had, a bit of tart feel in a esters dominated drink.

Flasche 50cl. Leicht trübes Bernstein, typischer Geruch nach Banane und Nelke. Leider kein Rauch wie erhofft.Ziemlich durchschnittliches Weisses, ohne Highlights.

Bottle at the brewpub. The beer pours out in a cloudy orange colour with steady head and medium to smooth body. Aroma of yeast and wheat. Taste of yeast, bread, wheat, mild fruits and cloves. Easy drinkable and refreshing. Solid Hefeweizen.

Draught at Spezial in Nov. 2011: Pale pumpkin orange. Persistent fluffy white head. Peppery and airy phenolics comprise the pleasant nose along with puttylike yeast, banana bread, lemon, peach, pineapple upside-down cake. Soft and creamy carbonation. Spiced peaches and puttylike yeast pervade the initial sip. Tasty snap of dry malt fuses with the airy palate-scrubbing phenols as a delicate cookie sweetness provides depth and sturdiness to the slick, yeasty body. Ample wheat-derived starches add considerable fluff beneath the crisper and nuttier Munich. Floral hop succulence infuses the center with luscious nectar. Appetizing citrus acids enliven the sparkling attenuation. Closes very dry, cleanly malty and piecrusty, with an emerging banana cream pie and spiced peach fusion. Features all the elements that I look for in the style…dry yet juicy, bright acids, clean malt, polished flowery hops, and most importantly, very nice balance. It’s not at all unusual to find high-quality weissbier in lager-dominant Franconia, and here is another testament to that. A very well constructed weissbier from the lager specialists.

Bottle at the beer Keller. Orange amber with a medium head. Aroma is banana and bread. Flavour is a little bitter orange, wheat and bread on a dry bitter finish.
