heavy (815), Split, Croatia Feb 20, 2009 18/02 0.2 l bottle courtesy of Doggythedog thanks for sharing! This mead poured dark amber body with tiny legs, no head, but lot of small carbonation bubbles, even particles of yeast floating. Fine and strong aroma where alcohol, wax, honey and olive oil was felt. Honey is dominating its flavor, of course, but that strange oily note is still present. However, it’s nothing repulsive, just rounds the flavor. Full bodied and really tasting, with pleasant honey and not too alcoholic finish. This is really a good mead, despite lower alcohol content than it’s usual. Doggythedog (1541), Split, Croatia Feb 18, 2009 Bottle purchased at the Bakina kuća in Zagreb, shared with heavy. Poured a fine dark golden body, with bubbles clinging to the glass... yes, not only is it carbonated but there seem to be pieces of yeast near the bottom. Don’t know what to make of it, but it didn’t detract in any way. The nose wasn’t impressive thought, oily and waxy, with few real honey notes. The taste is nicely honeyish, again a bit waxy, and sugary even slightly acidic/bitter at times. Quite tasty.
