Crisp and dangerously drinkable, this double IPA is just what the bitter drinker needs in his life. You’re not looking for anything malty. You’re not looking for the aromatic, floral character of hops. When you’re looking for IBUs, ask for it by name.

Keg at The Pony Bar UES, NYC. Pours hazy gold with a stingy, creamy white head. Aroma holds a good bit of dried citrus, lemon, spices, pine needles. Big sweet flavor, rich and semi-ripe citrus, spices, ginger, pale malts and bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with decent piney resins, further spices, flowers, sugar, salt, lemon and orange, grapefruit. Pretty ballsy stuff through and through.

Multiple samples at the NY Winter Beerfest. Poured a hazed orange/amber with an average foamy light beige head. Aroma of marmalade topped bread, rotting oranges, resiny hops. Medium to fuller body, syrupy, lighter carbonation with a lingering aftertaste. Aroma is actually a bit better then the aroma, rotting citrus, lots of grapefruit rind, breads, dough. Solid beer.

Growler filled at Ronkonkoma Beverage. Pours a hazy golden amber with a moderate off-white head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left partial lace. Very pleasant aroma of resinous pine, grapefruit and orange along with some caramel. The flavor begins with malt and caramel and is followed by a solid dose of resinous pine along with some grapefruit and orange. I love the combination of pine and caramel, and this beer nails it. The mild sweetness endures through the hops, supported by the resinous pine. Excellent DIPA.

Draft at Good Beer NYC. Pours cloudy light amber with a thick, foamy tan head. Good lacing. Aromas of pineapples, oranges, grapefruit and sweet caramel malts. Taste is bright, lightly resiny, grassy herbal hops, light citrus pith, a bit of woodiness and a bit of sweetness to balance everything out. Finishes with a nice amount of clean, dry bitterness. Really well balanced and highly drinkable for the ABV. Really great stuff.

Again.....grumble focker! If I ever meet you in person bang zoom to the moon with you. From notes taken at TAP NY 2013. I am amazed by this well balanced hoppy brew that seems too small for the numbers. A Double IIPA this drinkable...unheard of. Served with gusto straight from Dicksonbeers hands...what elixer! I stumbled on a footprint after five of these.

Growlers shipped by the brewery for RBWG 2013. Amber orange pour with a nice khaki head and lacing. Pine, grapefruit, citrus, and some caramel on the aroma. Rich flavor, a touch sweet, lots of fruitiness, citrus, grapefruit, pine, some caramel and pale malt sweetness, and a lingering dry kick that begs for another sip. Nicely drinkable, especially considering the ABV.

In short: A big, well-hopped, fruity, pale golden IIPA of great drinkability.
How: Tap at Tap-NY festival 2013.
The look: Mostly clear golden amber body topped by a persistent small white head.
In long: The moderately hoppy nose is semi-ripe citrus fruits, earthy pine-needles and hops resin. Pastry-like sweetness piercing the aroma. In mouth the beer offers a full body with appropriate generous carbonation. Upfront there is an initial residual sugars sweetness, crisp sweet cereals with a pastry-like sensation. But quickly the hops wash all the sweetness away with resinous slightly dank fruity hops (citrusy, tropical) and notes of earthy pine-needles. No alcohol presence whatsoever. Strong sticky hops essence sensation. Bitterness of medium intensity. Very easy to drink for its size, a very good IIPA. And then after that beer I drank a glass of vegetable juice to see how my body reacts to something that is good for me.
