COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boris pours black and opaque like a moonless sky over Siberia. Eight different malts bring a complex aroma and flavor of chocolate, coffee and roasty sweetness. And just in case the winter gets too cold, we brewed this giant spider to 10% abv. So grab you snifter and ushanka and enjoy. ты был укушен

Imperial stouts are a tough category since even the average are quite good. This one is better than average while still failing to rise above the crowd. Chocolate and coffee, not too sweet. Delicious but not exceptional.

Dark dark dark. Fine foam, but not too much. Complex flavour. Very nice stout, with added oomph from extra alcohol

Drunk. Thin. Black. Roast. Astringent. High carb. Chugs easy. Put down 24oz in a few minutes. Buzzed quick.

From a bottle. Roasted coffee and dark chocolate aroma. Pours jet black in colour with a small rusty brown head. Taste is like an espresso with notes of dark chocolate and nuts. Thick and medicinal in texture with some warming alcohol feeling. Nicely balanced finish. Good stout.

Pours thick. It even sounds thick. Inky black with dark brown head. Smells promising. Boozy chocolate, dates, toast. Have a sip and you get similar - with perhaps a lean towards the toast end of the spectrum. Quite bitter start to finish, which balances the hefty backbone. Good, but would prefer with one more layer of flavour after the toast. Mouthfeel is luscious, but a bit hot. Finish is almost...spicy? Bonus points for coming in 355 ml bottles. A bomber would be ridiculous.

Bottle. Black viscous appearance. Thick chocolate covered head with good lasting power, great looking stout. Aroma is dark fruits, ash, and coffee. Taste is roasted malts, burnt brown sugar, with a bitter roast finish. Really well balanced imperial stout, nice amount of complexity without being over the top.

Smellz wundrfel and poared out like a champ. The head was small due to a careful pour for no reason but it stays thick and gets new life with a swirl. Dark Brown and leaves a beautifully patterned lacing. Thick chocooolate, amaretto - less sweet and more almond, dates, some sort of creamy doped up coffee is blended up in this bizatch. It’s kinda comlplex in the way that there’s things there if you want to spend the time but not so much where the term ’mess’ even remotely comes into the convo. It’s a really soothing and calming aroma that lends well to thoughts of sitting on a warm beach in vegetable mode. This is pretty much a sipper. Slow intake in small amounts and the creamy full flavor melts in. Dark choco and coffee that never invades and imposes and if found more on the after taste than anything. Seems like it’s pure malts. Sure, there is a bit of bitterness right before the finish that doesn’t seem to be associated with the chocolate but that’s cool (kids still say ’cool’, right?). I need new terms aside from cool and calling everyone on earth ’dude’. I am fond of ’fucktard’ and ’asshat’ but other seem not to be. Those dudes are so uncool. K, after waiting a handful of minutes for the air to clear after melting my chair with toxic ass spew and testing the area with a Geiger counter I’ve deemed the area clear. The nuttiness is still here and a bit of warming made this bitterness I talked down show up more. Gets a touch of the ’ole booziness mid sip but that fades into a touch of harshness that wasn’t present before. It’s entirely possible that my olfactory nerve died during the release of concentrated plague. I’m sort of annoyed - I was really looking forward to this getting ultra warm and just sliding into my liver in silence but it has seemed to toughen up. It was actually better early on (after at least 30 mins in my RBSG ’15 glass). Early-ish aroma was king over any flavours and the dismantling of the dream scene. Enjoyed this, glad it was in a small bottle versus 650ml that would have given me the powers of flight.

Single 12 oz. bottle from the last of the cracked-open holiday cases from Sobeys Liquor, served in a nonic pint. I was going to make this review a kind of David Bowie tribute, until I realized that "Boris the Spider" was a song by the Who! I was thinking the Spiders from Mars...D’OHHHH!! But I swallow my goof, change my analogies on the fly, and press forward. Pours a completely opaque deep, dark chocolate brown, but with some flumes of carbonation visible from the very inside of the glass, and a pearly cocoa head with a brief retention, settling to just the top of the beer, and leaving some lace rings. Aroma is heavy with dense, dark chocolate, dark-roast coffee, dark preserved fruit like raisins, currants, and dates, roasty malt, and some fragrance of citrus. Toasted nuttiness, too. The sip delivers a wonderful, mouth-filling, thick, chewy, creamy texture for the roasted malts, cocoa, coffee with touches of cream, and nuts, all blanketing the fruit profiles, and including a nice, palate-awakening level of coffee-like bitterness. The slightest flicker of heat reminds you of its 10% abv Imperial Russian stout pedigree. Nothing off; no meat- or soy sauce-like traits. Don’t fall into arachnaphobia; enter this spider’s parlor and let yourself willingly surrender to its luxuriant, luscious web.
