Burnt copper color with respectable, frothy head - promising aroma of resinous hops, pine, and background malts and fruity esters (strawberry mostly) - this is the first beer I’ve had from a can in a while, and I’m reminded why now - a metallic taste runs from beginning to finish, crushing the otherwise promising flavors of bready malts, lighty fruitiness and moderate hop profile - medium bodied, with a watery finish - this would probably be much better if it were bottled.

Tap at Duffy’s Tavern, Lincoln, while watching Cass and her band. Poured dark amber, small but very lasting off white head. Lots of lacing all the way. Aroma is hoppy, floral. Taste was sweeter, malty.

Yeesh. I thought the Founders ReDANKulous I just reviewed had an unwieldly name. The Founders got a pass because it at least delivers on its silly name. There’s no such redemption for Hopluia. For me, this beer was not especially hoppy or praiseworthy. I wanted far more crispness, bitterness, and aromatics. Damn shame, too. The glass bottles of this beer are pretty cool. Too bad looks aren’t everything. In better news, names aren’t everything, either.

On tap at Crescent Moon 5-2-15. A mostly clear copper with an off white head and decent lacing. Light aroma of citrus and grass but not much else. Taste leans toward balance with some malt sweetness and citrus and earthiness from the hops. Unimpressive and average.

22 oz bomber. Tasted on 5/16/14. Beer from Beertopia Omaha, NE. The aroma was almost sour with a tart grape or sour apple. Not sure the age of thus beer but wasn't hoppy at all on the aroma. The taste was again fairly bland for a beer called Hopluia. I wasn't a fan of this beer.

Tried at Omaha draft beer week. Hopluia uses a rare method of dry hopping that works in the secondary fermentation and is brewed with two different yeast strains. The result is a hoppy beer of immense taste.
