2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
An odd one to rate. They changed the packaging from IIPA to Double Pale Ale? I’m guessing they had a recipe for an old-style English IPA and doubled the malt or something, that’s what it tastes like. It’s not as bad as its "2 percentile" rating makes it look. As people have said it’s just a blonde ale with more kick.

3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle into glass. Very faint hoppy citrus aroma. Pours a hazy copper with minimal head. Taste is light to medium bitter. Medium bodied with a creamy texture and a slightly bitter finish. I’m conflicted about this one, its not bad but could be a bit more hoppy. But if you are looking for a strong beer that is not overly bitter and hoppy this one might be for you.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Spinnakers. This one was sharp and bitter. I like the style, but this wasn’t the best representation.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On draft at the brewpub Victoria. Clear medium gold color, with an off white head. Surprisingly small amount of hops, this is primarily a malt forward beer, bread, mild sweetness, caramel, and notes of citrus. It’s not really bad, but it’s very different from your typical double pale ale.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Une pâle ale assez bonne mais pas très impériale. Amer, assez bien équilibré, mais rein de complexe ou unique.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Amber pour. Foamy head. Aroma of soapy citrus pine. Tastes like funky milk - cow’s teat. Caramel pine citrus. Palate is thick.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
The Great BrewDad Victoria Pub Crawl 2014- The big hops aroma just did not come off. Interesting but I would say a IPA not a double.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Amber in the glass with little head. Mild on the tongue without much hop but ok malt. Much like an English style easy sipper.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
One of the better strong beers I have had. At such a high alcohol this beer is very clean tasting.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap. Pours a clear pale yellow gold with a small wispy white head. Some moderate citrusy hops on the nose, but a heavier influence from the caramel malt base. The flavor is on the lighter side for bitterness for the style, lots of caramel and toasted maltiness. Mouthfeel is fairly light as well but still a bit sticky and clingy with soft minimal carbonation. OK, but not a standout, especially for the style.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 4/20
A 6 pack of cans from Liquor Barn in Burnaby Heights. Pours medium amber with generous white head. Moderate lacing on the glass (as if we care about lacing!). A trace of hop and malt on the nose. In the mouth: sweet and malted with the slightest trace of hop.
Omigod this is brutal! If you’re used to good craft IPA, this is an affront to the taste buds. Listen up, readers. This here concoction is better than (blech!) malt liquor, but only just. Steer clear!
Addendum: Evidently they decided not to waste good money on hops for this brew. If I were living on welfare and this stuff were priced at a buck a can, I could go for this crap. As nasty as it is, I can get it down and keep it down, and the extra alcohol’l git ya drunk fasta. Yah!
