Nose of hops; earthy & citrusy with lime and grapefruit, very nice blend. The flavor has a rich malty base with an overblend of hop bitterness and floral sweetness. Finishes a bit off, not as balanced as it could be. This is a nice and tasty IPA that lends to the malts but over accentuates the hops a bit and definately on the alcohol side. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 20, 2005 Bottle. Cloudy brownish orange. Big head. Dusty light fruit aroma. Light biting hops at first. Light body and malt. Hops are very present and the flavour is a little salty. Long finish builds as it dries on the tongue. May be an historically acurate IPA but it is not as pleasant as many modern versions. CapFlu (3481), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 18, 2005 (Draught) Thin, white, creamy head with good carbonation and clear golden body. Rather less orangy in colour than the IPAs I am used to? The aroma is that of fizzy sparkling water and ample english malts that confuse my nose. Perhaps their is a mild whiskey odour as well? The malt flavour is too overpowering for an IPA as the hops hardly appear in the taste. Its good but not as tasty as the PNW IPAs I have recently become accustom to... | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 11, 2005 Color a light bronze, moderate head that dissipates rapidly...Aroma is light, dominated by honey-sweet malts with just a hint of hop essence...Flavor is a blend of sweet malts and the somewhat thin but bitter hop profile is somewhat out of harmony---that is, there is contrast here, but a lock of roundness...Carbonation is moderate and adds some welcome sparkle and bite to the mix. Body is moderately light---a bit light for this style. Overall, the elements here just don’t seem to mesh together successfully---a bit out-of-synch... Aroma is mostly of malt, and a hint of hops. Mouthfeel is quite nice and creamy. Has a sweet malt taste and a bitter finish. I love the ABV cranked up, oh ha! I must say I was disapointed at their beer. Poured with a thin head not much hops in the aroma. Malty with some bitterness but could do with a bit more kick even for an english style IPA, and alot more would make it even better. Sammy (3981), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
