Commercial Description:
A traditional amber, complex, sweet, malty ale, with a touch of peat in the finish, which is characteristically lightly hopped. Brewed from a blend of English malts and a single pitching of Kent Goldings, this beer is fermented at a lower temperature to suppress formation of esters, reinforcing the beer’s complex malt flavour profile.

Body is a ruby hue, nice white head. Aroma is very malty, doughy, with caramel, and plums. Taste is light caramel, dried fruit, watery chocolate. Body is watery. Original 3.2 rating. Re-Rate On cask, was great, couldn’t get enough of this. Plenty of depth, caramel, maltiness, really great stuff.

Cask handpull at Spinnaker’s, Victoria. Deep chestnut colour with ruby hints and a lasting thick beige head. Malty aroma, choccy again, maybe a bit more of a twang then the ESB, but still lacks depth and any hop bite. Good malts but just a bit nothingy in mouth. Slight tang on finish.

BBD 10/05. Robe brune très claire aux reflets roux. Arômes de co2 et de fumé. Saveurs de malt léger, de malt fumé à la tourbe. Finale citronnée. Peut-être un peu trop vieille.

Cask at the brewery
Dark red and orange color. Very nice body for a cask ale: big, doughy and full of a thick, textural oak flavor. Sweet maple, woody and brandy flavors, with some more doughly and pancake-like flavors as well. Very good stuff here. The best cask ale in Victoria.

Dark brown color, aroma of old coffee & malt. Kind of a watery body, thin flavors of malt, roasted coffee & a hint of licorice. Clean finish. Average.

Pours a red/brown body with an offwhite large head, quickly diminishes. Aroma is strong peat and earthy with some malt backbone. Flavour starts off malty then kicks you with peat. Finish is slightly sweet. Unique and flavourful.
