On cask, was great, couldn’t get enough of this. Plenty of depth, caramel, maltiness, really great stuff. shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Jun 5, 2005 Dark ruby color with little head. Sweet malt aroma. Almost tangy. Sweet tangy flavor. Very clean and smooth on the palate. Very easy to drink. Delicious. stephen louis (162), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Oct 15, 2004 On the pour: a nice dark amber with a small tan head, kind of glows orange on the side of the glass.Sweet malty/earthy nose
On the Taste: real good, great blend of malts sweet, dirty, coffee, and a touch of hops,to round out the finish.
My only complaint...a tad and just a tad too much dark malt, giving it an occasional sharp or burnt taste.Really a bit mild for a true Scottish ale.
Great on the tongue, very little carbonation but this beer is slick and creamy.

Dark red and orange color. Very nice body for a cask ale: big, doughy and full of a thick, textural oak flavor. Sweet maple, woody and brandy flavors, with some more doughly and pancake-like flavors as well. Very good stuff here. The best cask ale in Victoria. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Mar 18, 2005 (Draught) I’m definitely liking the darker Spinnaker beers more than the lighter ones. Pours a frothy, almond head and a deep red-mahogany body. Nose of peat and malt. Very malty and refreshing with a red wine tinge at the finish. Very enjoyable! BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 21, 2005 Pours a red/brown body with an offwhite large head, quickly diminishes. Aroma is strong peat and earthy with some malt backbone. Flavour starts off malty then kicks you with peat. Finish is slightly sweet. Unique and flavourful. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 13, 2004 Light brown with a faint ruby tint. Light brown head. Malty and spicy aroma. CAramel and faint molasses with some stone fruits. Long sweet fruit and malt finish.
