BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 29, 2005 Quite unique beer, gold body with a thin white head. Aroma is malty with lots of fig and some licorice. Flavour is thinner then the aroma but quite well balanced and enjoyable. There is some nice fig and wheat balanced with light hopping. CapFlu (3340), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Mar 19, 2005 (660ml bottle) Thank god for RateBeer - I had no idea what this beer would have been classified as? A fruit beer huh? Pours a medium, white head with a ceep gold body. Nose is bready and maltedness comes through in the flavour. Watery though the figs are apparent. Not my favourite offering from this brewery... stephen louis (162), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Oct 15, 2004 This is a strange beer,it was put out as a tie in to the BC Royal Museum Egyptian exhibit.
On the pour, looks like a pale ale,or a white wine, the head is long lasting tiny tan bubbles, with good lacing. The nose is elderberry and Niagara gold.
On taste, hard to put a finger on it, some of the the ingredients are emmer wheat fig,and star anise. It sticks to your tongue ,and it is sweet and yet just tart,I can taste the fig and wheat, and the finish is white chocolate.I cant really wrap my tongue around this one,it is almost wine like, but very mild.
It is very earthy and sort of heavy a one bottle a day experience. And very open to personal interpretation,I think most will love or hate this one...Im on the fence.
Malakin (465), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Jun 18, 2004 Golden color with interesting aromas, fig definitely stands out. A lot of fig/date in the taste with a light bitterness. There’s quite a bit of flavour in this beer and I didn’t find it thin. JoeMcPhee (3807), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 17, 2004 Very pale golden colour with a 1" thick creamy head. Faint pale malt aroma with a pronounced date/fig aroma and some faint spiciness, although I wouldn’t know that it’s star anise. Honey aroma also seems to be present here. Flavour is similar but with less complexity than the aroma. Body is quite thin but the beer has a slight sour finish. An interesting brew that is quite successful.
