BeerLimey (1873), California, USA Jul 29, 2005 Dark reddish amber appearance. Rich malty, fruity aroma, mild burnt raisin, rugged earthiness. Thickish malt palate but not overly sweet, burnt fruitcake/raisin bread, mildly hoppy bite in the finish. Fruitiness on the palate is fairly rich and complex this really does wrok exceptionally well. Would love to try the cask version. shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Jun 5, 2005 Ruby red color with thin white hed. Sweet and bitter aroma. Nice smooth palate. Mild bitter finish. Pretty Nice and very drinkable. Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Apr 30, 2005 Poured Reddish Amber with a tight thin head. Smelled hoppy and malty/creamy. Taste was faintly sour finishing. Lacked something, but overall good. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Mar 18, 2005 (Draught) Almond, frothy head sitting atop a deep orange body. Nose of crystal malt. Pleasant caramel notes and english bitter flavour. Very enjoyable! Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 12, 2005 Red with a small head and spotty lacing. Toasty malts with bitter and floral hops. Some caramel and roast. Caramel malt flavors with bitter and soapy hops. Grapefruit comes out as well. Fluffy palate with a bitter finish. KingPinHead (390), Des Moines, Washington, USA Mar 11, 2005 Color a clear brown-amber, with a moderate head that holds its own in the glass and leaves little doodles on the glass...Aroma is a combination of caramel and light roastiness, very nice for this style ...The flavor features a three-tiered attack of slight malt sweetness, rich-tasting but well-judged roastiness and a round but assertive hop profile; carbonation is appropriately restrained, allowing this flavor-packed package to deliver its payload. The finish is smooth and leaves a pleasant hop dryness that coats the bottom of the palate...Continuous sipping is not a challenge! The body is just on the light side of medium, but it feels just about right, especially with the lively contribution of the hops. Overall, this is an excellent bitter, a well-balanced combination of flavor, refreshment, and smooth refinement... BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Mar 9, 2005 Sampled bottled at Man Land, Portland Amber orange color with tan head & off-white lacing. Nose of malty tangy hops & creamy malts. It’s fairly aged & creamy but meh. I have another bottle I’m going to sit down with by myself.
