Some caramel and roast. Caramel malt flavors with bitter and soapy hops. Grapefruit comes out as well. Fluffy palate with a bitter finish. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 12, 2003 Nice creamy foam head. Body is copper-coulored with a nice malty/flowery aroma. Quite a nice bitter flavour but could have used a bit more hops. I did enjoy the fruity hints to the flavour. Finish is quite nice as the beer further warms. A good beer that I'm glad I can access quite easily.

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 18, 2004 This did not live up to its hype. The dirt brown brew had no head, but gave off strong cascade notes. The body was slightly sour, but hops presence is definitely felt. The finish is mildly bitter, but the beer lack depth to become great in my opinion. GRM (1295), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 22, 2009 Glass, 4-ounce, cask, on the premise, savoured on April 28 2009; eye: reddish golden with yellowish reflections, nice lasting white head, light effervescence, lacing that leaves clouds on the glass; nose: malt, caramel, hops, light Madeira; mouth: velvety, liqueur-like probably because the beer is six-year old, quite smooth, Madeira is supported by the malt, abrupt fall in savours, becomes almost watery, then ends with a hint of bitterness and an even smaller hint of acridness, lightly bitter, medium body, good carbonation; overall: nice surprise

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 24, 2002 Golden-brown color. Pretty good ESB, very indicative of the style, but not spectacular. Smooth, but it just had a flat malt taste. TipsyMcStager (946), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 5, 2004 Pleasant hoppy citrus aroma. Pours a lovely copper brown, thick dense head with excellent lacing. Hop presence is more up front than at the end. Fruity notes. Body is slightly creamy. Not a bad beer but could have used more hops for a more aggresive finish.
