COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
Sgt. Pepper Stout is a full-bodied stout laced with black pepper (yes, it really does have freshly ground black pepper!) which is complemented by a generous spicy hop balance. A mixture of Maris Otter pale malt, Amber malt and Pale Chocolate malt are all used along with a traditional addition of Northern Brewer & Fuggle hops which give an assertive hop balance to the brew. What else could it be called other than ‘Sgt. Pepper’… it’s almost as if The Beatles named their song especially for it…. A distinctively different take on stout, this ‘big’ beer is proving to be extremely popular.

Cask at Derby Festival ’08. Dark brown with a small off white head. Pepper aroma seems somehow inappropriate. Fruity sour milk taste with ash and a bitter finish. This beer tries hard to be brash and full of character, but doesn’t quite succeed.

Bottle that dad bought along this week having purchased from a bottle shop in Belper, 08-04-08 Pours black with a tan head, this has a lovely aroma with coffee and yes I got the pepper very interesting. Nice good solid roasted taste with pepper again, finishes dry but good and rather surprisingly hoppy. Loved this, very nice beer, cheers dad!

On gravity at the Bristol Beer Festival 14/3/08. Opaque jet black with a decent tan head. Aromas of licorice, tobacco, coffee and bitter chocolate. Big flavours of roast malt, spice and earthy hops. The flavour was long with cracked pepper leaving a slight warmth in the mouth. Excellent.

Cask at GBBF 2007. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet licoricy and malty, combined with a light note of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty and rather roasted, but also with notes of licorice, leaiding to a dry roasted finish.

Comments: Well constructed, smoky and intensely coffee-like stout that does everything well.

Cask @ GBBF 2007, London. Dark black color with a average to large, creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy pepper, some malty, roasted, dark chocolate. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is creamy, carbonation is flat. Very nice ... \ ;o))

Cask@GBBF2007. Pitch black colour, not much head, just a slight brown ring on the borders. Aroma is spicy, roasted malts and slightly coffeeish. Flavour is loads of spices, caramel, chocolate and coffee. Also some slight roasted malts. Really pleasant one, long spicy and roasted aftertaste.

Gravity fed half pint at the London Drinker Beer Festival, very black with a beige bubbly head. A strong roasted coffee aroma with strong pepper notes and a little vanilla. Smooth and roasted malt at first, fferent, turning hoppy and peppery in the finish. Different, but I like it.
