On tap at the brewery, 16/07/2011. Dark brown with a slight, off-white head. Big, toffee and berry fruit aroma. Flavour was also sweet, with more fruit and caramel, a hint of roastiness and dryish finish. Enjoyable.

On tap at the brewpub. Fairly typical of a Dunkel in the area, this has sweet malt, molasses and caramel. There is some bitterness in the finish, but it’s too sweet for my liking.

Bottle
A very dunkel dunkles with a foamy off-white creamy head. roasted and doughy aroma, topped off with aromatic hops. Doughy and chocolaty flavors, delicate, slighly metallic hop finish, a bit bandaid. wellmalted body, slightly fizzly mouthfeel.

Draft @ brewery keller. Black, and opaque, looks more like a schwartz. Aroma is intense molasses. Full on dark sugar and soy sauce, in a good way. Light spritzy body. Great rich, intense flavors. Surprisingly not roasty, it’s more of the black sugar type of flavor profile. Nourishing beer, and I’m convinced this is the one they used to serve to the patients when the brewery was also a hospital...

(Keg at the brewpub, 20130514) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and almost white. Aroma had metallicness and molasses. Palate was medium sized with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, molasses, chocolate, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. I found the beer a bit harsh.

Vom Fass at the Spitalgarten 28 Jun 07. Deep, deep brown. Almost black. A small creamy head. Weak aroma. Soft mouthfeel. Sweet, uninspired impression.

Tap, at Spitalgarten in Regensburg July 2005. Cola brown, good pale beige head and good condition. Dry coffee powder and hops in the nose with some background metallic iron notes, dry and quite bitter in the mouth with a low sweetness and a touch of buttery toffee, lingering dry finish with a burnt toastiness and a touch of roasted barley.

500ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing, chestnut colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Minimally grainy, dark malty aroma, a touch of malt lozenge. Taste is moderately dry dark malty, subtle sweetness, hints of malt lozenge. Simple, flawless, OK.
