On tap at the brewpub. Fairly typical of a Dunkel in the area, this has sweet malt, molasses and caramel. There is some bitterness in the finish, but it’s too sweet for my liking.

Bright brown color beer with a light brown head going away quickly. Aroma is light roaste malt and caramel with odd grass notes. Flavor is sweet caramel, heavy. Hop notes at the short end. Very oily body and low carbonation.

Bottle 500ml (from BZ)
Deep ruby colot, small off-white head. Aroma has caramel and light coffee. Medium-bodied. Sweetish caramel in the front, then toasted/coffeish flavors. Clean, decent dunkel. Easily could order another one.

500 ml bottle. Thanks Timo A. Pours a copper colour with a small head. Aroma of sweet syrupy maltiness, some roastiness and grass. Flavour of toasted malts, syrup, grassy bitterness and some bread. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. Smooth.

50 cl bottle @ Timo A. BBE 02.03.2015.
Pours dark copper color with a small head. Bready aroma, some malts, mild fruity notes, hay and some nuts, distant berries too on the background. Malty flavor, slightly watery, dark fruit notes, some hay and distant sweet chocolate. Slick palate, soft carbonation. Nice but a bit watery.

My Bottom Line:
Lengthy malt flavors share hazelnuts, toast and grilled marshmallows, as cherry-like Munich malt angles take you into even more enjoyment.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam decorates the clear mahogany, producing some lacing.
-The mouthfeel is silky and refined.
-The finish is surprisingly dryish considering the nature of the flavors evoked.
-Drinkability is very high.
-Like Helles, this is one that needs to be drunk fresh at the pub.

On tap at Spitalgarten.

(Bue sur place): Une riche mais svelte Dunkel aux accents de noisettes et de chocolat qui fût une de mes première expérience révélatrice, hors Amérique, avec ce style.

Bottle. Dark amber, small to average and fully diminishing head. Moderate malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light bread with faint roastiness. Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel and bread with faint dark fruits. Finish is short to average, malty and sweetish, some caramel and light bread. Caramel sweetish dunkel - lacks character. For those with sweet tooth.

(bottle) pours a clear dark amber-ruby colour with a frothy light-beige head. aroma of dark fruit and heavy raisins, very sweet and musty, with some hints of orange peel, earth and roasted malts. flavour is mostly the same, roasted malts, dark fruit and earth, quite starchy, with a light hint of brown sugar and a semi-dry finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.

500ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing, chestnut colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Minimally grainy, dark malty aroma, a touch of malt lozenge. Taste is moderately dry dark malty, subtle sweetness, hints of malt lozenge. Simple, flawless, OK.
