Draught at the brewpub. Mahogany colour, rather small head. Light coffee together with caramel and wood up front. Medium bodied with rounded mouthfeel. A bit fruity with molasses and light notes of licorice. Salty lightly roasty finish.

bottle from Bierzwerg. Clear deep dark brown colour, mid-sized beige head. Aroma of chocolate and roasetd malts. Medium-bodied, malty with roasetd malt, hints of chocolate and walnut. A nice one.

Drank @ the brewery. Black beer with lasting, tan head. More substance here than in the weizen-dunkel. Here there are roasted coffee notes and a lasting malt finish, with mild bitterness. Looks good, tastes good. A decent dunkel.

Hint of sourness in the aroma, not overly impressive. Nice brown body with white head, decent mouthfeel. Malty flavor.

Draught @ Spitalbrauerei Regensburg, Am Brückenfuß 1-3, 93059 Regensburg, Oberpfalz/Bayern, Germany.
Clear medium to dark brown color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, light burnt and caramel. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light metalic. soft and easy to drinke but maybe a bit borring. [20090703]

(draught at the Spitalgarten) Clear, dark brown colour with a reddish shine and a short beige foamy head. Sweet toast-malty nose with a distinctive berry fruity touch and light notes of caramel. Sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a smooth carbonation. Tasty, slightly fruity taste with a touch of caramel; moderately dry, toasty and slightly bitter finish.

On tap at the Spitalgarten: Literally dunkel with a lacing off-white head, metallic and sweet dark-malty nose; soft MF, moderate sweet-bitter flavour; sweetish, roast-malty finish with a very light bitterness. O.K, a quite nice session beer.....

mjs (3665) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 14, 2013
(Keg at the brewpub, 20130514) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and almost white. Aroma had metallicness and molasses. Palate was medium sized with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, molasses, chocolate, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. I found the beer a bit harsh.

Perhaps a bit sweet, perhaps a bit blunt, but this dark dunkel is a good summer beer.
