Bottle, thanks to Santa. Nearly black pour with a ring of khaki head. Aroma: acetone; chocolate; alcohol; roast; coffee. Taste: Chocolate; roast; ashy; vanilla; alcohol. Cherries, fruit and booze. No way this is only 8%, right? As it warms, more vanilla and acetone. Palate: Full body, slick texture, syrupy texture.

Black pour with a brown head. The aroma has some very creamy bourbon notes as well as some chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is also very nice. I get a lot of whiskey as well as some barrel character, cream and chocolate. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nice beer, thanks for sharing Jason.

Draft to taster at FoBAB 2013, pours opaque black. Nose roast, toast, and chocolate. Slight green and vinous taste up front then roast and chocolate. Softer mouth. A little watery compared to rest of the company.

FOBAB ’12. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is definitely bourbon forward with some decent chocolate notes, a bit of a woodiness, and a light roast with a few dark fruits. Flavor is similar. Fairly rich chocolate, a good amount of bourbon, a few dark fruits, some wood, and a moderate roastiness towards the end. Finishes pleasantly dry with some wood and roasts before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Medium, smooth body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid, well balanced BA Imperial Stout. Nothing special, but nicely done and enjoyable.

FoBAB 2012: I was really pumped to try a BA Impy from a new Chicago brewer. In fact it was the first I tried after getting the beers from Pipeworks tasted. Looked the parts as it was basically opaque with an tan frothy head. The nose was greeted with lots of toasted, charred, bready and chocolate malts with a dash of coffee, leather, and pipe tobacco too. Some oak, bourbon, vanilla and dark fruits but seems well restrained in the aroma. The taste starts with a dark fruit prune and berry twang supported by chocolate and roasted malts. Some tannin and earthy notes more towards the finish with a very light bourbon undertone. The only bitterness found is from a coffee like bite, no hop presence found. The mouth feel is oily and smooth, thinned out by the barrel methinks. It is simply an okay brew that can be said "been there, done that better". Gotta say I was disappointing considering the "hype" within the Chicago beer circle.
