3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask at the Elm Tree, Cambridge. Dark brown with a cheeky reddish hue. Slightly translucent. Small and quickly dissipating head. Aroma of smoked malt, Marmite, almonds and forest floor. Bland bittersweet taste with a hint of woodsmoke. Flat, weak, uninspired body. Doesn’t deliver as well as I’d hoped.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hand-pulled half-pint in The Crown, Oakengates: 19th Nov 13.
Pours a good solid, deep, dark brown, on top a tanned foaming head.
Over roasted malts rule the nose: coffee with dark fruits on a chocolate bar.
The taste was also leaning towards a coffee flavour with again dark fruit and chocolate notes: dry and semi-bitter finish.
OK, there are some good Stouts out there at the moment, add this to your list of ones to try.

Cask @ Ye Cracke, Liverpool 040112
Very dark ruby brown. dense white head, some lacing
Aroma - Fruity dark malts, tad vinous
Taste of roasted malts, quite a lot of roast but quite fruity too, some roast coffee, red berries, chocolate, a touch vinous, tasty beer
Palate - Medium body, smooth. Finish of fruity chocolate, dry linger, bit too dry
Overall - Decent stout with that fruitness, not sure if it’s supposed to have that vinous edge but finish a bit too dry for me
