4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 jmalecki05 (6) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 21, 2013 does not count
Bottle with aggressive pour. Aroma screams of sour cherry upon the first pour. Getting some yeast notes as well as some light funky / sour aromas (not as pungent as a geuse). Dark red beet color. Head is a dirty ivory / white color. Almost a buttermilk aroma lingers on the nose. Incredibly soft and creamy on the pallet. Tounge is mixed between sweet and sour on the first sip. Aggressive pour gives two off white shades on the head before merging. Middle of the mouth is all over the place with complexities of sweet cherry and essences of dark fruit. Finish lingers with lasting notes of plum and a slight hint of alcohol soaked bread. You can even see the bits of yeast floating in the beer. This is an awesome dubbel!! Hats off to Sprecher on this one. Wouldja - Yes
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 SHIG (3061) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - NOV 10, 2012
Bottle thanks to TURDFERGUSON: Poured a carbonated black with loads of bubbles, the head was light brown but left fast to a whispery head. Aroma is tobacco, dark fruits of dates and prunes, and sweet caramel malt. Taste is a bold dark fruit with strong burnt caramel malts, left a sticky feeling to the tongue.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sammy (7041) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 22, 2012
Bottle from the brewery, put away for 7 months. Pours a darker brown, with a small white head. A richer malt aroma, perfume and a little boozy. Medium mouthfeel, and a good drinkabiliy from a rich malty taste, the yeast is in the secondary. Not too sweet, closer to an old ale. Very nice.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 EastBayPints (20) - California, USA - MAR 12, 2012
Appearance: Reddish brown, thin khaki head dissipates quickly. Opaque, Deep reddish leather hues.
Smell: Dark fruits, leather. Esters. Caramel. Bready doughy. Molasses, fig, cognac.
Taste: Burnt sugar, deep roasted malts. Chestnut and belgian yeast. Lingering hops on the finish.
Mouthfeel: Dark Malts. Strong alcohol presence. Medium carbonation. Smooth finish. A tad light.
Overall: Good but not great. I won’t be able to find this easily but I am glad I tried their 25th anniversary brew.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheAlum (4289) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - MAR 10, 2012
Pour on tap at the Reserve Tasting at the brewery (Glendale, WI). Pours a rich brownish hazed hue, touches of fiery copper, good reddish orange glow. A bigger cakey tannish almost light brown head atop cakes well, laces ok. Sticks around. A very nice reddish copper brown deep hue. Aromas are red licorice, touches of cherry and toffee, caramel, and gentle brown sugar. Mellow touches of spice, yeasty life, and Candi sugar. Biscuits and toffee come in fierce, just a touch of cocoa dusting. Initial is medium bodied, giving a slick sticky feeling on the tounge up front. Hanging on with toffee, vanilla, brown sugar. Biscuits, toffee, and caramel. Gentle sweet bread, toast, and mellow fruity esters offer just a touch of banana bread, some mellow red fruit. A touch of sweetness. Backend offers some red fruit, touches of ABV heat and sticky red fruit and caramel, gentle spice. Finish is mellow, red fruit, almost a touch cough syrupy and cherry/raspberry. A bit strange into the finish. During parts I quite enjoyed it. But it got a bit medicinal at times.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DYCSoccer17 (3012) - Woodland, California, USA - DEC 3, 2011
16 ounce bottle purchased at Ledger’s in Berkeley. Looks like this beer is at least a year old, so take that into consideration. The aroma has some sweet caramel notes and some toffee hints as well. A little sherry-like oxidation has crept in, too. Brown sugar and molasses also are present. A very sweet and sugary aroma. Moderately hazy orange-amber body present with an off-yellow head that is rather small. Starts with some metallic notes and a minerally flavoring before this becomes a little roasted in the middle. Fairly carbonated. Finishes with a papery, light coardboardy oxidation and a little more roastiness follows that. Not much else happening here. Pretty straight-forward.
